One of my favorite things about MW4 was the single player missions, how when I first played them I had no clue what to expect. If you Dev's could recreate that, it would be truly amazing. All the pieces are there, its all down to the execution.
If it is only death matches, the game will be fun, but it won't be earth shattering, and a mech game should at least shake the ground(excuse the pun i couldn't help myself)

Complex, Dynamic missions

So how to Execute this:
First look at the parts, You can have Co-op based missions or versus missions.
Co-op missions involve one team trying to go from nav point to nav point accomplishing goals, versus, involves the standard multiplayer, eleminate target capture the flag etc. Versus missions seem self explanitory so I won't go into detail.
You also have the ability for other players to drop in and out, once again in standard versus this is self explanitory. But, in Co-op missions having an opponent(s) drop in adds a whole other layer to the game.
Co-op Missions
The mission starts out as a simple go to nav xyz do tasks abc. the game could simply run out like that, you and your lance run through the objectives completing them. and in some random changes perhaps missions that allow choice, "at nav y you found the location of a convoy, investigate it or keep to the original mission...) Also other conflicts could emerge while at nav x you hear chatter on the radio about bandits at navi z, here is where it gets interesting, the bandits could be other players entering your mission and altering it.
There are tons of different ways you could have players dropping in and out alter the mission, from simple bandit raids, to the convoy you were attacking now has an escort.
This also gives lone wolfs an interesting opportunity. They could try to achieve little side missions, within the mission of an opposing faction, rescue a high priority person, destroy one single building then flee, identify the attacking mechs( so that a bounty could be placed for them) assassinate one of the enemy mech pilots.

It won't only be death matches. They seem to be focusing more on conquest, and attack/defense game play modes. I don't think there will initially be any co-op games that aren't team versus team matches. PVP doesn't mean it has to be team deathmatch.
I'd like to see a variety of versus modes, and some that are outside of the standard combat gameplay matches. Things like recon matches where one team is just trying to get recon on a few specific things, and the other team is trying to ensure that the recon guys don't get the info, or don't make it back to the extraction point.
