I just want to select the game modes I want to play, I hate the voting system when all these modes suck and disconnecting makes you lose points.

When you create these options, you create more buckets.

If a particular mode is not played... then it becomes an issue of how long you're willing to wait for the next match. At some point (especially on Oceanic time), you will have trouble even launching into a match.

I'm not saying this system is ideal, but when population can be problematic AND there are "too many modes" that are not even equally interesting... you will facing these problems.

A skirmish-only bucket and a Domination-Conquest-Assault-CTF-WhateverOtherCrapModesPGIInvents bucket could work.

If I'm in the mood for a few quick matches, which is what I'm in the mood for when I hit the QP button.. I know which bucket I'd be in.

There's more than just that bucket.

You have multiple existing buckets...

1) Server Location (3 buckets) - NA, Oceanic, Euro (note that most people will likely pick 2 of 3 of the regions on average)

2) Group or Solo (2 buckets)

If you assume 1K players (based on Steamstats) at any given time (you can multiply this # up to 10, but that's as much as you're going to get), you'll get ~166 players (1000 / (3*2)) in a particular bucket assuming people select 1 region... and that assumes EVEN distribution.

Just adding Gamemodes is adding an additional 4 buckets...

(1000 / (3*2*4)) = ~41 players in 24 different buckets (assuming 1 region selected). Math is simply not favorable here.

Obviously the number is bigger, but as long as you add more buckets (kinda like Russ's incessant talk for merging FW buckets), the math works against the MM.

I understand user choice is a thing, but you are choking yourself and others in terms of "being able to play the game" when you keep increasing the number of buckets in unfavorable ways. At some point, user choice is lost as lower population dictates the reality.

Domination is usually broken. Lurmers stay out of sight of the objective, brawlers all sit just outside ready to pounce whilst everyone bullies a light mech to go dance on bullets to stop the game ending prematurely... I always feel sorry for the light..

More so when it's me.. ◉_◉

I've already given a basic game design dissertation on why objective modes in MWO don't work.

To make objectives work, playing the objective has to have more impact on match results than killing your enemy. All game modes in MWO can be won through killing alone.

If your objective is hard to achieve, you need respawns to provide the necessary devaluing of lives. If you only have single spawns, you need a very easy-to-achieve objective. MWO has no respawns and difficult objectives - hence it doesn't work.

You have 3 possible solutions:

1) add respawns to the existing modes
2) make the existing objectives much easier to achieve
3) replace current objective modes with those designed from the ground up to work with MWO gameplay.

Those are your options.
