As a Jump jet Black Knight/MKII sniper/poptarting Nova Cat pilot in MechWarrior 4 Veng & Mercs, I'm still trying to recapture that seem "feel" or in a sense make similiar builds and use the same strategies from back in the day.
After taking a hiatus, I see they added/nerfed "wobbling" to the jump jets reticule, making it hard to aim when Jump jetting.
It also feels like upon releasing the Jump jet button, the pilot has about a 1second or 2 before the mech DESCENDS quickly down, almost warm like, and it will throw you aim off, where as mechs used to "hover" more IMO.
I also see the HEAT keeps increasing, making builds like a 7erLL novacat, or 5LL black knight/4PPC black knight seem like MEMORIES.
I was using a 5LL Stalker and even 2ERPPC 2Gauss Highlander at one point, but it seems like the heat has increased to the point where it's not feasible. And what happened to the gauss rifle? you have to charge it before it shoots correct? any good snipers still use it?
So any old school sniper/pop tarters want to comment on these changes and whether you found it cumbersome and found "new" builds or whether you "adapted" and still snipe/poptart using "modifications"?

Any Old Mw4 Sniper/pop-Tarters Around?

The only real jumpsniping I do is in a Blackjack, which is light enough to lift off fairly quickly and the arms are mounted very high, both conducive to poptarting very well. Once you release the jump the shake stops and you can still squeeze off a snap shot- but it does take more practice than before they added the jump-shake, of course. They did not intend to remove jump-sniping/pop-tarting, but they wanted to make it less simple. It is not that much more advantageous than walking up/down a hill or hugging a corner of a building and moving laterally instead of vertically.
Gauss rifles still deliver tons of damage at great range and for no heat. Dual gauss mechs can still ruin your day, and my petite jump-sniping Blackjack got shot mid-air by a dual ppc/gauss rifle just the other day. Gauss still serves a role but is no longer an easy route, it has a much steeper learning curve than merely "point and shoot and no heat management"

I'm still around on the street corners, meta*****ing myself out, as the forums and PUGs like to cry about.
DRAGON SLAYER
CTF-3D
CTF-3D

Those are all builds I've had good results in. I use my Dragon Slayer almost exclusively now though because CBill boost, and it's also got around a 4.0 KDR last I looked. As for the differences from MW4, It's a bit more deliberate and drawn out in MWO because it's just a slower paced play style compared to tarting from MW4.

Gauss+ERPPC+PPC on a Victor. At least 3 JJs, at least XL325. Have fun.
