I've been playing this game for a few weeks now, and after buying some mechs, regretting my purchases, and selling them back, I'm ready now to make an actual informed decision. I've been playing recently with the ACH-Prime(C) that's available for trial, and I really feel like I've settled into a combat role that it provides. Basically, I provide ECM cover to larger mechs engaging at range, and then break cover for flanking or chasing as the situation dictates. With that in mind, I'd like to ask for recommendations with regard to the mech that would best suit this playstyle, given that I am not at present willing to spend actual money to buy the ACH-Prime(C) that I've been using.

Since the way I've been playing revolves around ECM, and I'd also like jump jets, the options as I understand them more or less boil down to a choice between the ACH-Prime and the MLX-C for Clan mechs, and the RVN-3L, SDR-5D, and COM-2D for IS.

I appreciate any feedback regarding these mechs or any that I might be overlooking. Thanks!

all the ACH and MLX can run EMC due to them having ominipods. IS is fixed. Also you forgot the Hero Locust The Pirates Bane. It also has ECM.

I knew about the omnipods, and I was thinking that I should probably stick to one of the clan mechs because of that, so I could use ECM when I'm trying to get mastery on multiple models. As for the Locust, that's another real money one, so it's out for right now.

Ah okay.

Well ACH is better overall compared to the MLX.

So basically, the only "advantage" of the MLX is that it's a little cheaper?

I'm really new myself but I just want to point out that if you really want jumpjets you have to leave the ravens out. The RVN-3L has ECM, but doesn't have jj. The raven variant with JJ is the 4X (without ECM)

if you want ECM and Jumpjets, the ACH is the best choice for Clan, and the Spider is the only choice for IS.

the RVN 3L cannot mount Jumpjets, I think the 4X and Hugin can but nether can take ECM.
no Commando has Jumpjets, and I find the SDR-5D to be far superior to the ECM Commando variant, that is probably the worst Commando.
the SDR-5D is the only inner sphere Light Mech which can mount both Jumpjets and ECM (the only other IS Mech able to take both is the Griffin 2N), if you want a long range build with close range capability the best build is probably ERLL and 2 ML, the SDR-5D is the slowest of the Spiders with an engine cap of 255, and it can take up-to 8 Jumpjets, but it only has 3 energy hardpoints. however the Spider has probably the best hitboxes for spreading damage in the game which combined with its capability for 146KPH (max engine + speed tweak) on the 5D and 165 for the 5K and 5V can make it extremely survivable, however if the enemy is good enough to land an Alpha Strike you will go down from one hit much the same as the ACH, also bear in mind purchase price and outfitting cost will be close to 10 million total.

As for the Arctic Cheetah I am pretty sure none of the ACH variants have CT hardpoints so you can build any ACH variant to be functionally identical (different CT model number, but the CTs are identical other than model number anyway, otherwise no difference) to the trial ACH

Thanks very much for the responses. I did forget to check the IS mechs for jump jets. It looks like I will be buying myself an ACH today, and if the day comes when I need an IS mech, I'll get a Spider then assuming the circumstances haven't changed. Again, thanks for the feedback!

Yeah the ACH is one of the best lights in the game. that's why instead of being called the Arctic Cheetah it's called the Arctic Cheeter.

Def ACH.
The spider isnt bad at all but serves a different roll, same with the Raven.

Id have to say minus ecm, I prefer the JennerIIC. More viable options due to not having fixed equipment.
I feel the ACH hit boxes are a bigger advantage than Ecm

The ACH is a beast, but know that you will also get focused in that. Just remember to not stop moving. Personally I greatly prefer my Spider. Note that the ACH can run pretty hot, so learn to practice fire control.
Oh, and a correction . . . the 5D goes 148kph with speed tweak.
