I'm referring to the in-game chat system not the one in the mechlab though we all know that one needs help too.

Every time you go from piloting to expectating to game screens the chat window is destroyed and a new one is created resulting in the destruction of anything you were typing, this is really frustrating and I in my opinion unforgivable in ~4 year old game.

Please make this a PRIORITY and fix it. It shouldn't be that difficult.

This topic has been brought up many times ... and it's still valid :-D.

Somewhere is a thread from 2015 that properly lists a lot of problems with the chat. It's something like 20 items or so (scrollability, copy&paste, timestamps and bugs like messages going missing etc.)

Writing a chat is kind of an intern-level task. It's from hilarious to depressing and back again how PGI fails to do it.

Agreed. Also, pressing ESC while the chat bar is open should close the chat bar instead of pausing. There is no way to close chat bar directly.

If I'm not mistaken, PGI has said that Chat is one of the things that'll be improved with the engine upgrade.
