Some disk errors caused my MWO client to not function properly yesterday.

First instance - Picked map and mode, then tried to drop... wheel spins and spins and never got in. Exit client and tried to rejoin. Same thing. Exit client again. By then match was over so I tried another drop. Got a 5 second penalty message. No big.

Second instance - Tried another drop. Same thing. At this point I realize something must be wrong with the client. So I exited and ran the repair tool. After repairs I tried another match. Got the 2 minute penalty this time. Alright. Two minutes. I can wait. Still no good. So I exited and ran the repair tool again. It found more errors (wonder why it didn't find them first time through).

Third instance - Tried again after repair. STILL NO GOOD!!! Except now my penalty is up to 6 minutes.

I finally just uninstalled MWO and reinstall from scratch. Took a while for the re-download, but at least that fixed the crash.

My gripe: Do a client crash show me as a disconnect in the match I tried to drop into? Or as an AFK? I'm pretty sure disconnects happen all the time. Are all disconnects being penalized? Personally, I would report a AFK, but not a disconnect. Was I being shown as an AFK in match and got reported? Hence the penalty?

Yes a client crash shows you as a disconnect and there is the new anti-griefing system in place that imposes the time penalties you were seeing. It was added to prevent people from just disconnecting from maps/game modes they don't like to play, but it has no way to tell if you crashed or intentionally disconnected so they get treated the same way.

I've managed to get to over a 20min ban in the new system through some bad luck with TKing and DCing> the new increased load times due to the last patch make it a little easier to catch the timeout timer.
