I took Tarogato's image and set basic scale factors associated with each mech. This seems to be the most reasonable way to re scale mechs and can be done by factor. I know lots of people have talked about slimming mechs side to side or front to back. However, this requires tons f works for the modelers and pulls them off of important stuff they are working on.

However, simply scaling the models is much easier and should be able to be done quickly. The only thing I can think of that re scaling would cause issues with it the cockpit size. However, looking out from FP view, it's all relative.

While the image doesn't describe a perfect solution, if PGI were to do this 99% of scaling issues would be solved. While mech size within a weight class could vary some degree, more than 5 or 10% starts to create balance issues. While there are obvious outliers, high adjustments need to be made to most of the medium mech's scale.

Yes, while the Nova is clearly the most out of scale mech... the centurion is not far behind.

Also, this doesn't take into consideration that clan mechs might be smaller per ton, based on their compact and advanced technology.

You do realise that PGI already has an in-house solution that they are committed to? They've arrived as a baseline and determined the scale %error for every chassis in the game and they're going to be rescaling almost all mechs, including some minor changes to proportions for certain mechs that need it (Russ mentioned that the GHR is getting fatter, and I imagine they would thin the AWS and CTF). Most of the scaling errors are small enough that they can just do a simple global 2-4% resize to a chassis without needing to worry about proportions.

I'm sure they have figured stuff out. It's surprising that professionals would have a hard time scaling their mechs properly in the first place. It's not rocket science.

I make polygon models for 3D printing and multimedia on most days as my day job. If I didn't get the scale right, our services would be worthless.

I know that remaking models is far harder than scaling models. This game would benefit greater from getting the scales close FIRST then going back and squashing this or that down. It just makes efficient sense and would benefit the game greater overall.

Rebuilding a model requires re-rigging and fixing the animations. Scaling doesn't... you just scale everything. I'm sure there are different groups that want different things. I'd rather them fix he scale first on all the mechs in one patch than wait many months to years for them to fine tune every model that needs it... which is pretty much all the older models.

It's painfully obvious to see that that half the mechs (most the mediums) need a large scaling down... It would be nice to see it happen.
