it's trying to patch MWO, after it's been patched, it's having a disk write error and it's corrupting MWOclient.exe

it started with the last patch, and it tries to resume every time i launch steam.

workaround is currently running the repair tool, and launching the client VIA the patcher.

There may be issues with your comp...

The easiest solution is to delete it and redownload it through whatever means.

The Steam folder for the game is different from the MWO installer (look in the Steam folder -> steamapps -> common -> MechWarrior Online)

the issue seemed to be with steam, i verified the files with steam, it deleted it's temp files.

i then used the repair tool found directly in steam's MWO folder (yes the folder Deathlike mentions) and downloaded one of the hotfixes since the patch.

since then the problem seems to have resolved itself.

as to the source, i can only speculate... i think it was an issue with steam, trying to patch MWO automatically when i had already patched using the MWO's proprietary patcher to download and install the patch.

no, thankfully.

i continuously monitor my drives with Speedfan, which watches my HDD's S.M.A.R.T. outputs, it showed no errors to all three manual error checks, on top of that.

as to the folder being used, i was going to the steamapps folder for this operation, my original install was initially from the standalone client, copy-pasted into the steamapps folder after fooling steam into starting the download and stopping it, and copying the manifest, then verifying it.

however that should have no baring on this issue since the client had been working 100% since the initial steam release.
