Try out the WHK, TBR, SCR, ACH trials in a deck if you're limited to them. You will be 15? tons under weight but it is surprisingly effective. I experimented with it myself to see what was viable and posted a 1500 damage 10 kill match, defending Boreal Vault of all places.

The LPL/ERML mix of the WHK and TBR are a good mix, just be mindful of the heat buildup and make sure you have cover to use while cooling down. The Gauss rifle on the WHK helps here as you can spam that as often as you want will your heat dissipates. The SCR runs hot as heck, so setup your weapon groups for side to side and chain fire. Similar situation with the ACH, arm mounted on one group and torso on another while yet another has chain fire for all weapons.

Tried it out and see how you get on.

I was running two EBJ's, TBR and SCR. I'm working on getting the EBJs to Elite/Master (just need the C-bills to buy a third). Worked out fairly well, but I certainly want to get more mechs set up how I like them in the deck so my overall performance can go up. I'll get there, just need to grind the C-bills.

So I'll put it a different way: how is CW "garbage" relative to the QP modes?

Fewer game modes. Fewer maps. Maps come with artificial bottlenecks and thus very limited possibilities to utilize their size. Map features (gates, "orbital cannon", generators) which are pure arena-type artificial obstacles and make no sense; don't feel like actual terrain, which damages immersion. In CA, objective basically meaningless. Many games are decided after 5 minutes, but only end after 20+; so lack of tension. Dropzone location practically forces deployment in waves; thus no fluid, ongoing battle. Long walks before the actual fighting begins. No real incentive for non-deathball tactics (not even the slight incentives that some QP modes hold.)

I cant argue with that, this isn't the iteration of Faction Warfare I had in mind when imagining all the potential CW had, but you make of it what you will. Personally I enjoy the Community aspect of it, I know I can sign into Davion TS, find a group of guys and girls willing to shoot stuff and have a laugh doing it and we'll work together to win matches.

Yes it is the same few maps with the same objectives, but it beats.. how did Pug put it?.. 'ring a roses with added dakka' of Quick Play ad infinitum. I've had the most brutal brawls, last second wins, the most intense sniping matches and biggest laughs in CW, and Quick Play just doesn't compare. How you do things makes all the difference. Want to run the light flank and hear the DC begin to flap when he realises you're all in Urbies (shout out too Will!)? Or push the DC out of the carefully arranged firing line off the edge of the cliff? I've never laughed so hard in QP as I have in CW. Need a challenge? Run Faction orientated drop-decs rather than the meta builds, hell, just run trials and see if you can break 2k (pretty easy with the current Is trials, no idea on the Clan ones though).

Ultimately if you've made up your mind you don't like CW and have no interest in playing it, then don't. Accept the fact it isn't for you, but don't try and stop others playing it.

If you haven't tried CW or haven't had much luck in it, take the simple steps to get better. Find the Faction Hubs, group up, work as a team and have fun with it.

Is CW even necessary? Why do people want this game mode? MWO has never had much if any of a competitive scene. The setup for mechs is frequently very different from CW from QP due to the bottlenecking. It has NO small baby pool to get into for new players who don't want eaten by sharks and when you try to explain this the reply is"get better nub." And the 1/10 wonder why 9/10 say screw that. I will stay with the 9/10. You can keep your CW.

Another huge factor is fun which has to have a combination of exciting games and some winning. All the people sayiing ahhh, stick with it til you get better. You try losing 10 in a row. Keep in mind games are an hour each. 10 Hours of nonstop losing, really? At some point every nongrouped player is going to quit CW. The game is designed that way, just like 15 man drops can't get enough of it. Easy wins are easy until nobody is left to play.

I'm preferring FW to QB and it's not because I think FW is some kind of deep immersive thing (lol). It's because at least even in PuGlandia, teams actually try to use a little team work and communication. Plans, even if not so great, get hatched and players (mostly) follow them. I prefer that to the chaos of QB's.

I find CW more immersive than QP. I do still QP when I need to level a mech or no CW is going on at the time. The biggest draw card is the drop deck, this is something they should consider for QP as well.

I will play FW when PGI removes the requirement to join a house/clan.

This has always been my stand and it will not change. Ever.

Lone Wolves and Merc units are locked out, because if an oversight by PGI. Not everyone wants to join a faction. And before any of you spout off about "short term contracts" and that meaning you are not joining a faction, do not. It is forcing allegiance to a particular faction. Not in the spirit of a mercenary.

Anyone who chooses to argue this point, and has not already done so, read the post linked in my sig.......

I think you are misunderstanding what it means. The MWO world every one is a Merc you are just aligning yourself with the house that is paying you. In the books I read at a mech command post the flew the Merc Company Banner and the Flag of house that they were being paid by.

I hear ya. I actually agree with all of your criticisms, I just think most of them -at least in general- apply to QP play as well. I don't see CW's failings at immersion as being a greater sin then say all of the QP maps being set up to ensure that 80% of the match devolves to a brawl or snipe fest at 1 or 2 possible locations. One mode is not sunshine and lollipops and the other garbage. In the end, I don't see CW as being much different than QP as a game mode other than that it encourages (near demands) active communication and group participation. So to me CW is just another game mode. Could it be a zillion times better? Did PGI do a horrid job at fulfilling the promise of the mode? A resounding "HECK YES!" I guess where we differ is that I, and at least a few others making up that oft mentioned 10%, still enjoy it and would like to see others at least give it a try.

....and if we encourage enough people to give it a try it will eliminate (or at least reduce) one of the common complaints; wait times. The more people playing, the shorter the wait becomes ;)

I'd say let FW coast for a bit and lets see what CW 3 brings. We will use CW 3 as a "re-launch" for the unit to come back into CW in an organized manner. Currently CW is largely a mechbay tour for right now.

I've made it a habit to enter every QP pug game and say this: PLAY MORE FACTION WARFARE!
