Just from the point of view of an attacker, a bunch of enemies all centered in one tiny spot is a perfect place for flanking them and then hill humping to draw their attention towards another direction only to get backshot the moment they do so. A concave is the most effect form of attacker firing pattern on a tiny ball of enemies.

You don't have to rush to win domination. If you go around the circle and shoot them from the back, they'll either turn on you to chase you down and expose themselves to the rest of your team, or they'll keep trying to kill the ones in front of them, leading to easy backshot kills.

Ya. It's much more funzorz when you don't go in the circle at all like a few teams I've been on since the game mode was released Posted Image

Anyone in the circle being shot pauses the timer. Alpha and Beta bux getting blown up adds time to the clock. Dead units can't cap a green bubble. gg.

As a light I typically rush to the very edge of the circle behind a rock or something wait for my buddies to move in and then go around taking out targets of opportunity.

LOL.

I've seen so many people run into the open circle and thinking they will win. They all don't or get missile boated/focus fired. Lose the match and blame the people for not getting into the circle.

Yes well, I lost a match the other day trundling towards the circle because nobody in my team decided to get in it and all the enemy was behind cover on Grim. I was right about to cross when the timer ran out.

So yes, you do need to get in the circle!

I did have a game on one map where nobody on my team moved into the circle at all, nor could get a shot on mechs actually in the circle.... instead they shot at 900m targets and let the clock run down....

Can't jump in it like a party pool, but someone should dip a toe in if nobody is able to pause the clock.

While not an exact match (this game has LoS blocking of shots), you should see the importance of being able to fire shots into tight clumps of enemies while they must pick and disperse their fire. Unlike the video, enemy teammates also block each others shots if they're moving around, which is perfectly what you want them to do. The less often they can fire, they less damage your side takes.

You often see this play out in choke points on mining colony. The graphical "MWO tactics for newbs" tutorials also cover such a concept; that having a tightly clumped ball of enemy units coming out of a choke vs your nice concave (and yes those graphics often show concaves) is the best position you can have. While not choked while all piled into the green dot of happiness, they do concentrate their forces into nice little bitesize chunks.
