Hey hey!

Decided to spring for a (er...maybe more than one) mastery packs and I'm trying to match Smurf's and Meta's builds (Here: http://metamechs.com...es/thunderbolt/ )

I can't seem to bolt on double's vs. single HS's....i've stripped the mech and really can't change much as far as structure, armor or heat sinks. Has the mechanism changed? Trying to clone the metamech brawler build with MPL's and double heat sinks unsuccessfully.....

Thanks!

In the lower left corner of the mech lodout screen in the mech lab there's the upgrade panel. You can change armor (standard/ferro fibrous), heat sinks (single/double), internal structure (standard/endo) and missile guidance (standard/artemis) by clicking on the name of the upgrade option.

For endo and ferro fibrous armor, you need 14 free slots each. For removing the upgrade, you need enough free weight.
For all upgrades, you need the C-Bills required for the upgrade.

Changing single and double heatsinks will remove all heatsinks. The choosen heatsink type is then available under the equipment tab.

Hope that helps.

TDR-5-ST (Top Dog) mech...65 Tons....

Stripping the mech to free space doesn't enable any of the boxes lower left for 'upgrades'. Plenty of cash on hand....ugh. Sec...plenty of MC, not c-bills. Can we exchange those?

Just run the build without until you earn some cbills. Trust me, you'll get allot more outta a mech if you play it from the ground up. Learn to run hot in a machine with single heat sinks and when you double heat sink it, you'll've already learned to compensate for a slower firing rate, so you'll be that much more vicious once it's built up.

Playing undergunned is not, in fact, a drawback if'n you learn from it whilest grinding those cbills.

aye.. you need C-bills.. But for the 5SS, i would recommend, just going 5 MPL's and then add a couple of large lasers or ER large to the right torso, for long range and hill/corner peaking.

running 7 will get you into ghost heat range, and that is a pain for newer players. Or just drop a single laser, and run 6.. and add the extra heat sink.

It's basically a penalty for firing a certain number of the same type of weapon at the same time (within 0.5 seconds).

If you equip enough weapons of the same type to trigger it, there will be a warning symbol on the top left of your mechlab.

MPL and ML are capped at 6 I believe.

It's also different for Inner Sphere vs. Clan for some weapons as well.

Need 1.5 million cbills to exchange singles for doubles.

Cbills are the only currency that means anything in customizing your mech -- EXCEPT in camo and 'some' modules.

you can buy Cbills with MC, however you get a better exchange rate by buying and selling Mechs, I think the best exchange rate is the CDA-2A(C), although most of the Light Champions have a better exchange rate than the Cbill packs you can buy, if you buy the Mech then sell with all equipment and you get cbills. if you can get the Champions on sale you get a far better exchange rate, Champion Mechs go on sale at 30%-50% off about every 3-4 months.

I will buy in a few Champions when they are on sale if I am short of the useful XL engines, with the Champions on sale you can get XL 280, 295, 300 and 340 for between 600 and 800 MC each, I miss the original SDR-5K(C) build which had an XL255, another realy useful engine, which also could be used in all SDR variants rather than the 280 which does not work with the SDR-A and SDR-5D.

Your 9SE is already pre-upgraded. Just run that until you grind out 1.5 million c-bills. That is maybe an evening of play.

A non-optimized 5SS can use single heatsinks if pressed.

6x mplas + 1x mlas + endo + 260 STD + 26 SHS gives you a heat efficiency of 36% vs. the same build using a 300 STD and 20 DHS at 41%. Not a terrible difference. You will off course be much slower.

I also advise people to use surplus 275-280 STDs and skip endo if they lack the 300 for Thunderbolts.

The Top Dog you can just stick a bunch of light weight slas or mlas in it and call it a day. It has enough hardpoints to allow building around any temporary limits caused by lack of upgrades.
