Uhm no.
Werner von Braun and his rocket engineers did that.
Since then Nasa did not develop any real new tech and is not even able to develop their fireworks rocket driven Space Shuttles any further.

Back to topic: The arguably most interesting thing about MGs is what Vlad Striker said.
They do no heat. So you can co-fire them with other brawling weapons like smal pulse lasers or together with fast AC rounds.
Problem is what Koniving said. They have no travel time. So firing them with large ACs o SRMs isn't that effective cause they will either hit somewhere else than your primary weapon or not at all.

In my very limited experience with the limited builds that have MGs on them. I isolate the MGs to be on their own fire group or attach them to a clone of the brawling fire group (ie group 3 is Med Lasers and group 4 is Med Lasers plus MG). I wait for a section to be opened up (armor is destroyed) with standard fire, then I switch to the MG included group and just hold down the mouse button so that the MGs keep ticking while the lasers will fire when they are up. When doing this I often get a chain reaction of "component" destroyed over and over whereas regular brawling or fire might get some in before the body location is destroyed. So it seems that MGs can have value in some point farming along with incremental destruction. Of course doing so limits your torso twisting so you need to take into account the situation.

A component for the purposes of that "Component Destroyed" bonus is a body location on a 'mech - arm, leg, that sort of thing.

Don't forget all the designers and engineers they got from Avro Canada and Orenda engines after the Arrow fiasco. A group of fellows who in only four years went from producing an average subsonic all-weather jet fighter and somewhat improved licensed engines to the world's most advanced super sonic interceptor and class leading engine, only to have the rug pulled out from under them by a short sighted group of politicians.

I wish PGI would unnerf MGs back to usefulness. There was a point when MGs were actually useful for chewing through exposed internals. For a weapon that's completely useless, it at least had a niche purpose.

But the whiners as usual, boohoo-ed so hard, the MG got nerfed back into oblivion.

If the target is distracted my Ember will still often be able to kill 100 ton Mechs inside 5 seconds, 4+ Machine Guns are still realy deadly after you strip the armor

Yeah, MGs aren't so terribly nerfed - they're just a special-use weapon.
