Yeah but think about it coupled with laser heat sinks on a night map. Disco ball, man.

On TT they are. TT you face too many possible variation for a single "Protection from XXX" pony to work reliably.

In MWO? Maybe not. With the amount of laser vomit currently, reflective armour isn't necessarily a bad choice.

The "meta" could ironically shift if a majority of pilots equipped Reflective Armor. Personally, and this would be easier for PGI to implement, I think that FF should offer a general damage reduction buff when equipped. This would make it competitive with ES if only a small buff, say 10 or 20%.

I think the difficult part for things like Reflective Armour is how to make it look good. I could work with the game being in wireframe mode, but PGI sorts of like the game to look good. Getting a good a proper chrome-looking mech and for lasers to go splashing off into the night might be a bit demanding on the engine.

I saw your comments on FF in another thread so I won't bother to bring up the arguments from there.

Isnt reflective and reactive, something like -50% dmg vs it's assigned weapon type, but i takes extra dmg vs the opposite?

It would be hilarious to see this Laser vomit meta shaken up if we ever got reflective armor....

I wonder if reflected lasers would deal damage if it struck something else?

And what would happen if a reflected laser struck another mech with reflective armour?

Yeah, but Heavy Gauss and Rotary ACs don't use AP ammo.

And sadly, we don't have any of these. And will never have. This whole thread is pointless, because Russ will never read this and even if he does, nothing will happen! I am still waiting for my damn LB-X to be fixed!!!

Sorry, got a bit salty.

There is. Reflective armour vs. lasers, Reactive armour vs. autocannons, SWARM vs legs. AMS actually are supposed to work against SRMs too...

Reactive armor works against missiles and artillery, not against ballistics. MW4's changes to reactive armor aren't canon.

Then.. Hardened, was it?

Hardened armor doesn't discriminate against any particular damage type.

I think the actual anti-ballistic armor was ballistic-reinforced armor.

None of the defenses being discussed is available in the current timeline. PGI might be willing to bring in time-traveling 'mechs from the future, but ONLY 'mechs that use 3053 or earlier Tech.

LRMs have tons of counter measures, ECM, AMS - these at least take up tonnage, but most of all Radar Deprivation Module

Why not some counters for Lasers and Ballistics, that way you'd sink some tons into getting those counter measures and sacrifice some damage, it would increase lifetime on every mech, a thing that most of us here asked for.

You'd also not need things like ghost heat to balance anything.

Considering you can shoot missiles (LRMs) from the comfort of being behind cover not actually ever seeing the enemy you're shooting at............ I'd say that's a pretty good reason why. As far as lasers and ballistics that's easy - stay out of line of sight. Best counter there is.

They do have a counter, it's called "cover" or "not being in line of sight". Alternatively you can "drive fast" to make it harder to hit.
