I hate using twitch and for some reason always gives me fits . . . it doesn't matter what browser I use and I'm not going to gut all my settings just to try to make it work. Thusly, I wait for the YouTube versions. Thanks, however, for the thought.

Simple. Immersion. Some people really want to feel like they're in a real Battlemech cockpit that's blazing somewhere around 150 degrees Fahrenheit -or more- during combat in the 4th Succession War and Clan Invasion eras of the Inner Sphere. It's not about the bit of skin or some childish peek-a-boo shot . . . it's about the immersion from the Battletech lore.
For people who think pilots wouldn't have a desire to be as cool as possible with as light and breathable clothing as possible . . . just think of this: In lore, every time a pilot would be pushing their reactor to shutdown there's a chance they'd quite literally cook themselves to death in their own mech's cockpit. If MWO had some sort of more punishing heat system than we do now . . . something that was more lore friendly . . . there's no way in Hell players would be running their mechs as hot as they do now, nor push themselves to shutdown anywhere near as often.

Yes, the Cyclops doesn't have anything new to add.
Would it be weak? That depends on the quirks (and sure, it would need very good quirks).
Call me nuts, but for the next IS assault mech (after the Longbow in its Project Phoenix II, of course) I'm looking forward for the Charger. It has all kind of variants, from ultra-fast laser boats to slow, mixed weapons, heavy armed assault. And it can look good.
I would love to see the Charger with the Hatamoto variants in the same skill tree since they were all just modified Chargers. We could (dreaming here) even provide Kurita players faction point bonus for playing a Hatamoto in CW/FW.

Sarna and some of the source books show drawings of Mechwarriors from various factions clothed in uniforms and cooling vest. So there is a disconnect between the written lore and the illustrated lore.
Who is right? Take your pick.

I mean, if the last thing my opponent sees before my AC20 crushes his cockpit is that my fightin' shorts might be just a lil too tight and that the heat of battle does cause arousal...
...meh

Dasher
Dragonfly
Crusader
Wasp/Stinger
..and of course the melee IS mechs, but that would require melee options for hatchets.

Erm.... all of the lore (novesl, sourcebooks) I've consumed as of now talks about Mechwarriors wearing as little as possible and a cooling vest - no full body suits. Everything else are artists impressions.

Good point. When we get near the heat threshold, our vision should blur (sweat in the eyes) and perhaps even tunnel vision should occur, representing the severe heat stress on the pilot.
