Wow, you guys have been good at answering his questions. In other words Washcloth Repairman, you have been getting some really good advice here.
I agree that you may have a chain fire set up on the 4 energy hard points for the king crab. look at it in a training room to see if it is in chain fire and hit backspace to get rid of chain fire.
Faction Play. IS factions or aligned units, (as you are) do not get to drop with clan mechs. So no jenner IIc's or orions IIc's for you right now. Now in PUG drops or in group drops you can use those mechs.
TAG was good. One thing with LRMs, use the BAP, Artemis, TAG and sometimes the Command console or targeting computer depending if IS or Clan. It is interesting watching PUG drops when you can target mechs at 1250 m. They react to them, but before most would ignore them. Why, not on sensors. That is one thing most people never learn or ever hear about. as you get better people see them and call it in chat, so no sensors needed at higher levels when working in a group.

TAG does not stack. One TAG is enough.
Although TAG doesn't stack, you could make use of 2 tags. Equip one in an arm and the other on the torso. Unlock arms and with some practice you can spot 2 enemies with your tags (torso aims at one, arm aims at another). This kinda setup is usually reserved for dedicated ECM scout mechs.

It's extremely rare though that you get use out of this. If you use Free Look to make your torso TAG aim differently to arm TAG, this relies on you maintaining correct elevation and the enemies standing completely still for it to work. If either you or the enemy (or enemies, if more than one is being tagged) is moving, it'll throw one or both off.
In higher level play, holding a TAG as a light mech is an invitation for your shiny brass backside to get shot to bits. I'd recommend the LRM boat to use the TAG themselves, while lights should use NARCs to help spot enemies. It makes the light far less likely to be spotted and called out as a primary target, and therefore helps them stay alive while still doing work.

The double-tag-freelock trick CAN also fool an enemy into thinking two mechs are close together each with a TAG so if its a fast scout, he might fool them into sending more units out to his location than they might for just one enemy mech. Also TAG gear is an energy weapon so the energy range boost quirk applies to them. On many IS mechs this adds another 75 meters.
