Starting to get real annoyed at all the hit detection and invisible hit boxes, things like damage not registering or point blank AC/20 shots going through a target, or how assaults use the tactic of backing-up to destroy the sheety latency and warp behind you.

Or how Lrms hitting your front damages your paper thin rear armor.

Or how more and more I notice that a lot of the geometry has larger invisible hitboxes than the actual visible texture.

Or how some mechs literally don't render for ANYONE/are able to shoot through geometry.

Will update as I blind screenshot to a more reachable key.

Turn up object detail may help

You LOD is very low thus the terrain is blocking mechs, building will pop up outta nowhere, mechs will be places and shooting from places you cant see.

2 weapons I trust in this game, 2 that work when all else fails.

Gauss, AC-20.

until they intersect an invisible hitbox from part of the map geometry... then they fail like anything else.

And as a prolific HBK guy...I can attest, my AC20 has failed to register more times than I can count. Even with my shoes off.

LRMs hitting you on the front and damaging you on the back is just fine. What is wrong is your understanding of mech geometry. Almost every mech has an antenna on it. That antenna is fixed to the rear on all mechs. It is extremely difficult to hit but, there are times when it does happen. Also, your meck is a 3D object which means it has a front/back, side/side, and a top. The top portion of your mech isn't 100% front which means, if LRMs come down at you at such an angle, it will apply damage to the rear if it hits the rear portion of the top of your mech. This isn't new.

As far as hit boxes and hit registry, my favorite is when my reticle is clear of a building or hill and I pull the trigger only to burn the dirt. I swear, when I go to work, I have to walk through 20ft of invisible building before I enter. True story.

No complaints here for anything related to game play except one time two days ago got shot in the front and it took my back out. Was an Arctic Cheetah that was acting funny anyway.

Game is running great. One crash when entering a field in like 6 months or something. Some funny momentary lag here and there though recently I never get.

then i dont know what to tell you, i have nowhere near as bad of an issue as you are showing in the pics. I do hit junky terrain from time to time but i think everyone does Terrain hitboxes are **** and we know it, though recently they did fix a lot of Tourmaline and you can shoot through the wreckage much more reliably now.

Send pics into Support and tell em to f-ing fix it!

After playing a few games I've come to see that MWO actually has really good hit detection.
What it doesn't have is good terrain hitboxes. They're really really bad. HPG having square hitboxes on round pillars was just absolute idiocy

PGI's answer to OP lasers and their improved hit reg? Make laser projectiles so they also suffer from hit reg and collision issues.

And have you tried to fire down off the platforms? Notice the like 2 foot high blank space hovering over the ground? Its hilarious and ******** at the same time.

I just thought of this (FYI I'm just a lurker) but it should be crystal-freaking-clear via HUD elements which of your weapons can currently hit the point indicated via your reticle. I wonder if this even possible. I'm envisioning a red or green ray shown on your hud located near your weapons, and with each ray labeled (away from the reticle to not obstruct it) e.g. LA, LT, CT, HD, RT, RA.

Object detail only affects the LOD of brushes and entities (buildings, rocks and mechs)
terrain detail is what you want to beef up for the terrain LOD.

Object hit boxes and LOD do SUCK in this game. Something can be done to fixthese to a some extent. And it's simple to do.

terrain LOD isn't going to change. Which sucks because you get areas like this>

Those mechs aren't JJing. In fact they are partially hidden by the terrain. Just that's it's invisble.

I didn't even remember how bad the netcode/hitreg/server-desync issues actually are in MWO. Until i started playing more than once a month or so again.

Now, i think i have seen all of the above (excluding invisible mechs), and on top of that:

-sitting smug in cover for seconds, no enemy mech has line of sight to me, when suddenly the mech paperdoll shows missing CT armor, CT structure yellow, Head Armor yellow, all without any flashing dmg indicator or weapon effects. My mech was facing a wall, teammates around me, and seismic was clear.

-getting a full burn of 5 MPLs well within their effective max dmg range on an executors CT over completely unobstructed open terrain without the crosshair even turning red to confirm a hit, and without any dmg registering.

I can only guess those incidents were due to severe server-client de-sync. And apparently that can happen over a whole series of matches played back to back.

Think that sphere is a sphere? Think again. It's a cube!--PGI's modeling team. Many times in HPG map I see a UAV in sight near the platform, shoot at it, only to hit invisible hitboxes.

My SRM6 Quad pack on my Timber is known for whacking the front of an assault, and blowing the engine out the back.

Fun hit detection.
