locusts are good to start with on lights because by the time you master them everything else will seem easy when you move on(note-i don;t own any clan mech so can;t tell o anything there). :)

also if you want to see friendly assault mechs shed tears of joy- run over to them in your locust PB and be their ecm umbrella. not only would the shock of seeing a light actually stay with the assaults get them teary eyed. who is going to shoot the locust peeking out from behind them when a King crab and a dire whale are firing at them?

oxide and locust 3S are your bets if you want to stick with srms, I used to run 1ML and 3 srm2s just to stretch the ammo out a bit more and still give you a weapon when you're out of ammo on the locust. huggin is also srm friendly but it's a hero mech so you'll need MC to get one.

then once you've worked your way through you can graduate to urbie and become the destroyer of worlds. (or was that destroyed on many worlds...)
