So, after a long hiatus, I tried to give MWO another try. Before I stopped playing, I did reasonably well piloting LRM support mechs. So my first thought was start again with those.

Unfortunately, despite being "offered a choice", the only map I get is Crimson Straits. Due to where most of the fighting happens, the lower deck of the train station, the gameplay is nowhere near enough fun to see if staying at it longer will get me a different map (Crimson Straits twice in a row is enough to get me to seek fun elsewhere).

Do any other maps get played?

In my experience, the most popular maps are:

HPG Manifold
Grim Plexus
Frozen City
Canyon Network
Polar Highlands

The least popular maps are:

Terra Therma
Forest Colony
Caustic Valley
Viridian Bog

It's a map VOTE.....sometimes you get what you want, other times not.

If yo don't get your choice you get a map vote multiplier that will continue to increase each time until you get the map you want.

It's the only method PGI found to make us play unpopular maps.

I'm sorry, but a sample size of TWO is not enough to proclaim that "Crimson Straits" is the only map being played. Pretty much every map gets picked rather evenly in the rotation of things. Except Mordor (Terra Therma). Nobody likes to play on Mordor.

Welcome back but lrms are.one of the worth weapons in the game. If you like support mechs maybe try an er laser build.
