I want Mech Bays to appear in personal challenges, grab bag/ stocking stuffer etc events again. Why in the widest did they remove that for a potentional free gift?
Ok so maybe its not that along since we had an MB sale, but at least some sale on other things, like Heroes, colors, cockpit items and maybe bonus MC when brought with real money.

If you make mech bays free and so easy to acquire, then you get people like me with 70+ mechs playing the game for free, not supporting the developer at all. Not a very sustainable decision for them. ¯\_(͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)_/¯

Robot garages are not expensive, if I have need of one I'll buy it, sale or not. OP make it sound like they cost a fortune.

The robots themselves? Play long enough and you'll be able to buy any non-hero variant of them using in-game currency.
The robot garages though? Nah, those are more complex, need RL money for those.

$6.95/1250MC = $0,00556 pr. MC
$0.00556 * 300 = $1,668

If everything depends upon getting Mech Bays for $0,834 instead of $1,668, then no one can help you.
Compared to the hardware and electricity cost of running MWO, Mech Bays are effectively free.

Although I agree that objectively mech bays are pretty cheap, unfortunately the perceived value of items when they are on sale is not to be underestimated, no matter the actual low cost of the item.

"The game is free to play, sales are basically thank yous to the community, but as always there is somebody like you who feels they are entitled to more."

Considering what everything costs when not on sale I lean more towards the thought that sales are more to keep people interested and playing - not a thank you to the community. But if that's the way PGI is giving their sales off - as a thank you - then I'd argue their regular pricing is more a F you.

Others talking about the game not being exciting for players not being PGI's problem... I mean, it kind of is. If the game isn't exciting why would those players continue to play? And stating the game is repetitive isn't off base as I've seen many, many players say such including the "White Knights" and other fans of the game.

The mech sales we were given back in December were really nice. I enjoy the gameplay of Mechwarrior enough that I'll play it regardless but the mech sales gave me a lot more incentive to play. And it's like this - put sales out there for mechs and get players interested in wanting them. Do it enough and eventually players are going to have to buy mech bays (yeah I know you can get some for free, but from my experience in CW I'd rather pay 300 MC for mechbays than go through that again). So in the end the mech sales could potentially garner real money sales. And what were the sales anyway? 35% off? It's not like that makes them super cheap to obtain, you still had to grind for them.

sales are actually good for the bottom line, if they weren't, nobody would have them. you sell something at a loss if it gets them into the store. its easy to see with tangible goods. i went to the store yesterday because a couple things i needed were on sale, and like an idoit i buy a case of coke and a bag of chips because im there already. so while attempting to save 50 cents i ended up spending an entire $20.

now replace tangible goods with farts (thats actually an acronym). mechbays are really just a few bytes of data in the server somewhere. you pretty much pay pgi and an automated system enters that mechbay into your account. you get an expanded gaming experience for a nominal price. no matter what the price is pgi turns a profit. since you need mc to buy a mech bay, no matter what you are making $7+ for the mc purchase, whether you get 4 or 8 bays out of it doesnt really matter. a transaction occured and pgi gets supported.

this is why you cant buy mechbays directly in the store, because by making them jump through the mc hoop means you have to go through the purchase mc screen, where a higher value package is pushed. even if it was on sale you would see this, and may very well swing for one of the bigger packs. so while you were trying to buy a mechbay for less what a cup of coffee goes for these days, you ended up spending 15 bucks. then when you try to figure out what to spend the rest of your mc on after you have the bay you wanted, you see a hero thats slightly more than your mc balance, so what do you do, you buy another mc package. then of course that bay you just bought is now filled and you need another!

when we had events to give them away for free, i kind of think the idea was to draw departed players back into the game, where they can see everyone in their shiny new mech packs and say "i want one of those". you cant shove advertisements in their face if they arent playing after all. i figure they stopped when they started seeing players who haven't given them one thin dime with 50+ mechs (thats about where i was before i started contributing).

I know that, the garages are still cheap counted in RL money. It's less than a soda can where I live.
