So just had a look at the tournament information page again.
There's nothing about travel expenses compensation which is understandable and not expected but consider this:
A team has a team size of 8-12 players and assuming that just the BO4 is played in Vancouver this means 32-48 players need to travel there. A BO4 should only take one day to play out but you still want to need a hotel room for two days because you want to be fresh and stuff.
I you are from the US or Canada you might have very little travel expenses but if you are from anywhere else you need to get there.
My assumption is that you need 500-2000$ depending from you are from obviously for every participant.
This means if you reach 3rd place the personal prize money (without any tax stuff) of 833 to 1250$ will more or less cover for your travel expenses on average but not more.
If you are actually a team of 12 (maximum team size) and you reach 1st place but you all come from far away and distribute the net gain prize money you might get away with something like 3000$.
Overall and assuming an average teamsize of 10 and travel expenses of 1000$ the community needs to invest 40000$ to reap 100000$ for a BO4.
In case of a BO8 then its 80000$ vs 100000$.
Since there are no established esports teams in MWO helping you with your travel expenses to uphold your teams name I am curious how large teams from far away will react to the travel expenses vs prize pool.

Tournament page says finalists "will be flown", which suggests that PGI is footing the bill.

PGI is flipping the bill for the flights at least from what I remember.
