Wondering what you guys/gals thoughts on putting both Endo-Steel and Ferro Fibrous on a heavy Mech?

Do you think it will last longer in battle?

Thanks in advance

Very few IS Heavy Mechs can make use of both Endo Steel and Ferro Fibrous armor. They both just save you weight, the former saving you the most weight and is considered the superior alternative. If you take both you're losing 28 Critical Slots worth of weapons or DHS.

The mech's ability to "last long in battle" is unaffected by FF or Endo.

What you do gain is tonnage to mount stuff. For IS mechs, the number of slots you eat up make Endo + FF impractical, but on Clan mechs it's virtually mandatory to have both items equipped because of fewer slots.

Both Endo and Ferro are tonnage saving options... by trading crits. They don't actually make the heavy magically stronger outside of having more available tonnage for more armor.

Rarely you will ever want to run Ferro on an IS mech due to the crit consumption rules (over the much favorable Clan ones).

So in summary, take endo if you would like some extra tonnage and feel a loss of crit space is a good trade for it. Leave Ferro behind unless you have a rare mech that doesn't need any crit slots but could use a few extra available tons (lots of engine, no guns).

I am experimenting yet again

Only my Orion’s have enough space to run both and still have a decent loadout and a STD engine

Orion on paper should be one of the best IS Mechs

the only time i run ferro on is mechs are on some light mechs. usually to get a little extra armor. there are a few cases where ferro came with the mech and i never got around to swapping it out for endo, mostly on mechs i do not intend to keep after leveling.

It's closer to paper mache.

Both FF+Endo on lights
Endo on Mediums and sometimes FF too
Endo on Heavies, rarely FF on them too
Assualts can fo either way on Endo, never FF unless joke build.

That's my general rules for Endo and FF.

There are a very few Heavies I run both Endo and Ferro. Normally Endo is about all that is practical.

Here is one though (Ilya Muromets)...

The reason I run both is to allow for the largest STD engine possible. The Phract is a bit of a barn door and havind a STD engine is nice on that machine. This allows the mech to tank a bit, still break 70 kph, and also maintain good firepower with ballistic quirks.

It is a rare for me to do this in a heavy. Most times it is a light only.

Endo and Ferro do nothing to improve your mech beyond giving extra tonnage for equipment+armor, at the expense of taking up 14 crit slots (7 for clans) each. You may have the impression from MW4 where there were different types of armor with different effects that Ferro would give some sort of advantage otherwise, but here it doesn't.

On IS mechs you almost always want Endo, and occasionally Ferro. (Endo frees up more tonnage than Ferro but takes the same number of slots, so is better)

On Clan mechs, they're both locked on Omnis but on Battlemechs (IICs, Kodiak) you generally want both.

Well he didn't get it after the first few people told him, so no harm in trying. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I run both on a select few Heavies.

My JM6-DD runs both on a STD 275 with 2x UAC/5 w/ 165 rounds , 4x MG w/ 2000 rounds, 2x ML. I like it.

My MAD-5M also runs both on a STD 325 using 5x ML and then my choice of AC/10 or Goose.Sometimes I'll drop a laser and fit in 2x AC/5 that way.

I run both on my Jester to get max engine. Sometimes, very rarely the jump to a 350 engine gives you that extra tonnage and the extra HS in the engine balances it out. It also works this way for my SH-K with a 350xl and a couple of my BJs, but like most people have said it is best for lights. If you are using 2 crit slot lasers or AC2 you have a chance of squeezing in ferro after endo, but always take endo first.

I ran Endo and FF on the KGC-000 w/6x AC-2, was quite fun and had enough slots to bring an ERLL too.

Endo = mandatory for almost every single gundam ever.

FF = worthless except for lights and some mediums.

14 crit slots for some tonnage and 14 more crit slots for a tiny bit more tonnage. Posted Image

You're better off packing as much heatsinks and ammo since you need full armor to get the max benefit from Ferro Fibrous armor.

Anything that frees up tonnage for more weapons, ammo, armor, and/or heat sinks will increase your potential to meaningfully contribute to the match. Especially if it does not cost you durability as XL engines do.
