Imagine for a second if that were a thing.

Flares do no damage.

1 slot missile.

Does not act as a light source; instead creates it's own self illuminated particle emitter.

Lasts for about a second. Sticks to surfaces it lands on; including an Enemy mech's cockpit; effectively being blinding.

Would you want this weapon; and would you jam it onto an otherwise unused missile slot?

I'd personally take great enjoyment in running lights specifically made to tag an assault's front. Or take the Grid Iron's missile slot, jam a flare in it, and go to town with an AC20.

No, the flare was and would be worthless.

It was funny to load up every single missile slot on a Longbow with Flares and then try to kill a Flea mech. It took a while, but damn it was fun! :D

I could see them maybe having use as a cockpit-blinder similar to the old Flamers, but I imagine that such a mechanic would cause an uprising...

Missile flamer that causes heat to rise over time; even on a cold map then. Slow projectile velocity so that it requires you to really be in brawl mode.

So a brawling missiles that causes heat to rise, sounds more like inferno SRMs than a flare, which I'm ok with, but let's not try and make them a blinding weapon and keep them strictly a heat weapon.

Never underestimate the power of Flare! It saves lives and burns stupid people to death. As shown above.

i am sure i could find a trolly reason to have one and use it from time to time. That un used missile hard point on the head of a grass hopper ... blinding you say? one slot you say? sticks to the enemy?

How about Inferno SRMs that stick bright, burning napalm onto an enemy mech where they hit? Posted Image

The flare isn't even a canon 'mech-scale weapon. The closest canon thing to this are the flare munitions for LRMs.

Unfortunately, we don't have any maps dark enough for flares to truly matter.

But on the flipside, I really wish we did.

Replace flares with smoke rounds and we're golden.
