This is a thread of trash-talk between ISEN and AWOL over their match for MRBC.
It got me thinking back in the early days of CW (now FW) when it was new and fun and we did stuff like this. Honestly it's more engaging in its way than the eye-rolling drama over the event PGI is running, even with the large cash prizes.
For a short time PGI was running 'events' in CW. While they were not perfect at least they sparked some interest.
What we really, really need are campaigns in CW (or FW or whatever). We need extended engagements between a couple factions with a set goal; taking 5 worlds by X date or pushing to Y planet or holding without losing a world for Z days or whatever. We need the sort of stuff that changes 'find match with open room, drop, win/lose, complain about OP mechs/cheap strats, queue up, wait, do it again' into a specific, intentional engagement.
That got me thinking - Tukayyid never worked. We can get into the mechanics of why attack has a huge edge over defend (objective rushes), etc. etc. but the reality of just running a single location like a big CW pug queue was always broken and as such the 'rewards' of cockpit items for it don't really mean much. If they had a Tuk even today and all the IS players ran 3x BK, 1x Firestarter or whatever for objective rushes and won (if IS was on attack this time) it would still be meaningless because the game mechanics are not balanced for that.
However what if you ran bi-weekly campaigns on a couple of fronts? have running polls for cockpit items to the winner? They don't even have to be unique, put them up for sale a month later or something but awarded to the winning side for that campaign.
What we need is events that mean something, have a defined ending and objectives, last long enough to get a lot of participation (and time to talk trash and make it memorable) and end up with a trinket to mark the occasion. We can and often do make stuff memorable on our own. We just need a little time to prepare and reason to do so.
This is in general discussion specifically because it's geared towards people who tried and left CW. Assuming CW 3 is an improvement would this add some drive and energy to CW?

It would be better than the Grindwarrior: Respawn Edition that we have now.

I've always liked the idea of having something like 3 month seasons with a Tukayyid event to finish it off.

+1 for faction play Phase 3, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3. Maybe by the time it gets to Phase 4 it will be a truly epic galactic war.

I actually made a poll about this very thing a couple months ago. http://mwomercs.com/...ap-based-event/

PGI certainly does need to create more incentives for FW participation. Gamers like goals, even if they are ultimately completely arbitrary. Take a page right out of the "Theme Park" MMO book. Most of them are all about chasing a carrot just for the sake of saying you caught it.
FW NEEDS to have a reason for taking and holding planets. Getting your unit tag placed on the planet on the galaxy screen isn't good enough. I'm not sure the MC rewards in PH3 are going to be enough, either.

This is right. Until there is more MC content it will be a sort of weak incentive. Now if there is awesome MC content, that's another thing entirely.
Same goes for C-bills.
