It's NOT suppose to bring up the overlay unless you press shift+tab, but often, sometimes with just space key, or single press shift key, and the Steam overlay will come up. I was wondering if this issue can be addressed.
I don't see a bug report forum, so I am posting it here. If this is the wrong place, can the mod move it to appropriate sub forum where the debuggers can take a look at this?

All games have it happen, it's not MWO exclusive, it's the Steam Overlay itself.
If you Alt-Tab in, pressing Shift will trigger it (using the alt-tab tab)

This might be more of a steam issue, because it's happened to me a couple times when playing other games when i forget to turn overlay off.
If you want any actual help though, you should contact support directly. The forums aren't exactly the place to go with technical issues.

Bind overlay to a different button.
Problem solved.

My Steam overlay pops up when I press uppercase "G". It happens infrequently but I have been paying attention to ensure I'm not fat fingering something. I'm nowhere near my alt-tab combo.....

I don't know, Mechwarrior is the only game that I have this issue. I have about 20 other games in my library without this problem. So I thought it might be more of a mechwarrior problem

nope definitely steam problem.
Protip: Bind your steam overlay to the "Pause - Break" button, no bugger in hell uses that key and in games that do it usually just pauses anyway.
It will change your life.
