I don't need to wait to face plant. You're already helping me get there quicker.

From the RULES section : https://mwomercs.com/mwowc2016/rules

TEAM ROSTER
  • All Teams must be comprised of at least eight (8) Members before the Team Formation Deadline.
  • All Teams are allowed a maximum of twelve (12) Members in total. While you are only required to have at least 8 Team Members, we strongly recommend you try to fill all 12 slots.
  • All Members must have the ‘Accepted’ status before the Team Formation Deadline.
  • Any Member who does not have the 'Accepted' status before the Team Formation Deadline will be removed from the Team and will not be eligible for participation.
  • If you do not have at least 8 ‘Accepted’ Members on your Team before the Team Formation Deadline your Team will not be eligible for participation.
  • If you do not have any additional Members to cover the absence of a Member who is not able to participate in a Match or in the Tournament, or if you are otherwise unable to field 8 players in a match for whatever reason, your Team will be disqualified.
  • Players can only accept an Invite for one Team.
    • Accepting an Invite to a Team will void any other Pending Invites from other Teams.
    • Players can leave a Team and join another Team as long as they do so prior to the Team Formation Deadline.
    • Players are prohibited from using alternate accounts to participate on more than one Team.
All Teams have the option of assigning a maximum of four (4) Substitute Players (“Substitute”).
  • Substitutes are not required for forming a Team but they are strongly recommended.
  • All Substitutes must have the ‘Accepted’ status before the Team Formation Deadline in order to be eligible for use during the Tournament.
  • Any Substitutes which do not have the ‘Accepted’ status will be removed from your Substitute list after the Team Formation Deadline.
  • Substitutes can be used to substitute for any player in your Team on a per-match basis in any match and at any point of the Tournament.
  • If one of your Core Players is no longer able to commit to their participation in the Tournament you will need to contact Support Services to permanently replace them with one of your Substitutes.
  • If one or more of your Core Players is not able to participate and you do not have a Substitute in place to replace them, you will be disqualified from the 2016 MechWarrior Online World Championship Tournament.

Notice their wording though. It is inconsistent which is my point. Its only vaguely clear and you have to imply things which for "rules" are terrible.

At no point do they clearly define what a "core player" is. They just bring it in this second section of substitute players.

Which brings me to the 5th bullet point: if one of your core players is no longer able to commit to their participation, contact us to switch them with a substitute. But what is the point if bullet point 4 says Substitutes can be used to substitute for any player in your team on a per match basis in any match and at any point of the tournament.

They should have just stated:
Max 12 people on your team
Must have at least 8 people accepted to be a qualified team by the deadline
If you drop below 8 people on your team you forfeit

Because core player is not specifically defined; i could make the argument that the 12 players on the team roster are "core" players.
