Well, I am not totally happy with that one because the lore is wrong. They reverse engineered Phelan's Wolfhound IIC, but his original IS Wolfhound was totally standard. There would have been better options. I will buy it nonetheless; the Wolfhound with ECM makes just sense.

I am all for adding every single available weapon and I surely hope they don't forget the Binary Laser Cannon.
In fact I am sure I will use the LB-5X sometimes because I love its sound.

As far as the engine goes, the LFE is an obvious choice but I would not discard the XL easily since the great strength of the Nightstar will be long range combat in which the XL is less of a liability and damage can be spread. Who knows, if we get XXL engines one could build some insanely mobile yet heavily armed Mech with the same vulnerability as the stock version with XL.

Well heroes have always just been an excuse to invent a new variant. So I expected it to be based in lore but be it's own version.

If the arms on the Nightstar get good inflation an xxl could really make it a powerhouse beyond what it'd be normally.

For me, durability is paramount, because I don't assume I will always be at long ranges. If someone wants to close with an assault, they will. It wouldn't be very hard, and that unfortunate Nightstar wouldn't be able to evade given how fast a Nightstar would be (54 kph). The number of times I've ever used an IS XL Engine could likely be counted on 1 hand, just because I don't like the fragility, it's not worth the increase in weapons or speed to me. I'd keep the engine rating the same anyways (285 XL -> 285 Light).

*I also like your idea for a Nightstar hero, the Comstar/Word of Blake background just seems fitting. I'd support it even if the lore is wrong, it would make sense in the overarching BT universe, to me at least. Seems like it could happen.

*edit: better English

Well you could just put a bigger engine in it. You don't have to keep the 285

It looks like Russ put a bit of stock in CK16's poll and we just got both the Annihilator & Uziel. Here's the light of hope... The Nightstar got 6th in the poll when Russ was making the 6 month plan.

I dare to have hope that #Nightstar2017 will actually happen!

It is funny, 3 out of 4 of those mechs are not going to do well in MWO... the Mad Cat Mk. II is going to come out of this in the best shape....

Now yes I do ask for crap mechs like the Stinger, Wasp and Bushwacker, but the difference is, I know they are going to be lackluster in MWO, yet I still want them anyways... I see a lot of people that are going to lose their sh*t when they see how under performing the Uziel and Annihilator are going to be...

Yeah at least you're reasonable about it. Still that leaves us with nostalgia mechs and nostalgia doesn't help you kill the enemy...

I agree with you here, this does seem to cast a ray of hope for the Nightstar. Hopefully, we'll see it soon. I'm pretty sure everything that beat the Nightstar in votes has the advantage of a following, be it other MW games or being an old FASA-era design. At least the Nightstar beat out the Devastator and Hauptmann.

PGI could do the Nightstar as the first single mech release after the new civil war pack. I'd be ok with that. Unfortunately the Nightstar doesn't have the advantage of a fan following from Mechwarrior 3 and 4.

Alright everyone lets support the Nightstar! It might have made it into Russ's current 6 month plan but until it's released there's no way to know.

Now that 3060ies Tech is confirmed, I will upgrade the Ultor of Xaver Murr accordingly. The background story is that he needs to improve his anti-Mech capabilities (reducing the substantial counter-insurgency capabilities of the Ultor). I am thinking about maintaining the four MG and replacing the UAC/5s with bigger guns to keep the unique three ballistics hardpoints per arm. The arm lasers will have to go, but I intend to make up for that. However the bigger question is... what weapon would you prefer as UAC/5-replacement? It could be the UAC/10 or the RAC/5 (or /2) or the LGR.

I went for Rac5s and left off the BAP. I also switched the erppc for a heavy ppc for sheer firepower as the Racs have good range anyway.

XL380
X2 Rac5 with 5t of ammo
X4 MG with 3t of ammo
X1 Hvy PPC
X1 Mlas (Could be a flamer or an extra ton of ammo instead, etc)

I think the speed it has thanks to the 380 would allow it to keep enemies away so it can use it's hvy ppc although in MWO I'd probably downgrade it to a 350 or something to fit in more ammo.

Yes I love it quite a bit. If I could have one wish, it'd be to have a colored version.

Why MLas and not ERMLas? Or MedPulse by ditching a ton of MG ammo because 6,000 rounds for 4xMG which are tertiary weapons is extreme overkill.

Rather a Flammer - the NightStar is supposed to kill Infantry. Its a pity we don't have "infantry" in MWO - but consider that the Conquest locations would be buildings you have to clear with your Mechs.
But enemy infantry with Recoilless Rifles, SRMS ... have captured and fortified those buildings. Good luck to "flush" them out without destroying the building.

This would be an excellent option for MachineGuns and Flammer even in MWO

Well this variant is but in this case the idea was to improve it's mech killing ability but retain 3B per arm

Well take off 1t of MG ammo, throw in another dhs and make the Mlas an erMlas.

I think that's fair considering this variant is trying to be more anti-mech than the previous version.

Here is some good news for you (although I would not overstress its importance):

Mark Nicholson, PGI 3d artist, voted for the Nightstar.

I had something like this in mind, although I am still toying with the idea of replacing the HPPC with a battery of three LPPC (2x RT, 1x CT). In TT that would not be so great, but in MWO I'd probably take the lights.

Interesting. I once asked him for his opinion of the NSR and he said he didn't much care for it, mostly because of the minis which were forward heavy or something.

Yeah I noticed that 3 LPPCs make a hvy. That'd probably be better in mwo because the Lppcs would have a faster cooldown.
