Basically a mech show in the veins of that cheesy MechWarrior 4 Vengeance intro

or Mechcommander

Does such a show even exist? I've been searching without any luck so far, it would be a damn shame if such a show didn't exist...

I know you don't want anime, but Gundam 08th ms team is very very good for that kind of serious stompy robot fighting.

That isnt a cartoon! Its a historically accurate documentary. It might look like a cartoon, but its just that the video cameras they used are really old and out dated. Thats the problem with you youngsters... Everything thats not in 4k ultra hd looks like a cartoon to you.

Well to bad you are out of luck. Anime practically made the Mecha genre (FASA stole designs from the anime Robotech). There aren't (to my knowledge) any none anime/cartoon mech shows.

That's unfortunate, I'd love to see a Battletech TV series perhaps something like Battlestar Galactica, but instead of being chased by Cylons, being chased by the Clans.

Or just a reboot of the animated series, except make it less animated and add more drama and violence.

Cross your fingers that maybe Netflix could pick it up as an original series :)

I thought about those but then he said "show" as in "tv show/series" I suppose. One more thing I as a non native speaker don't instantly get!

They operated in good faith under the assumption the party they had an agreement with actually did have the rights to license the designs, so that's not really theft. It's not like they got them from some shady guy in an alley that offered them cheap designs that had fallen of some truck. Posted Image

Well... they did and they didn't. They got "rights" to the designs from people who didn't actually have official rights to the designs, and then they ended up being Harmony Gold's sue happy spank toy if I recall. Either way it wasn't completely legal for them to use the designs.

They used them and they weren't theirs to use. So... kinda theftish? oh well.

HG never got the rights from the actual IP holder either...

No. They got it from the International distributor of the series that had ALL rights to the Robotech images outside of Japan. So legally they have the sole rights to those images outside of Japan. FASA did not have any legal rights to have those images. Harmony Gold does.

FASA bought the rights from a distributor for the art work, so they were good as well. HG got 'international' rights from a company that had Japanese distribution rights, Big West / Studio Nu took HG to task over. Ever notice how you never hear about Zentradi or Maltrani after the Macross arc? That was due to the actual owners of the rights telling HG to stuff it, and that they could not use those races any more. Also part of the reason Robotech II; the Sentinels got canned.
