Feel free to merge this thread into any existing thread on the subject, if needs be. I wanted to pick all of your collective brains on what you suspect are the number of players that will be playing for a Great House and/or a Merc company. What do you think the percentages(number of players) are for each House/merc company?
Another question, how will these numbers effect gameplay in your opinion? Fire away!

So, Hawkeye... How do you think these numbers will effect the gameplay for players in general?

Depends on
1) How exactly community warfare will work
2) Whether or not the Lyrans and Suns will be working under the Federated Commonwealth banner (which they should be in 3049)
3) The number of planets available for conquest.
Right now I don't say any one side is at a disadvantage. However once the other 130,000+ users declare an allegiance things might get hairy.
The house in the worst shape IMO is Marik, since they lack an organized leadership/group and have low numbers. Kurita, Davion, and Steiner all have large numbers (war of attrition), while the FRR has Skjaldborg and Liao has Word of Lowtax, two of the larger organized groups on the site.
Time will tell...

keep in mind that number of players per faction is only part of the picture.
you should also consider the amount of hours each group of players will commit to the game each week. Some of the factions may be blessed with very large numbers of players, but might be surprised later when a large portion of those players are more casual than the average group.

This was certanly true in Star Trek Online. There, Starfleet outnumbered the Klingon Defense Force many times over, but the Klingons consistantly defeated them, so much in fact that cries for nerfing rang loud on the forums. Sometimes the players that join the underdog faction are the ones who are looking for a challange ... and have the skill to triumph aginst low odds.
I am not so sure that is the case here, I think that House Davion and Steiner are the most famous, and therefor most popular. Maybe the Free Rasalhague Republic will surprice us all, after all space vikings are dangerous!

my money is on Liao being the sleeper faction. They will have the underdogs from NA AND the Chinese to play the off hours.

The kicker will be community warfare when it is implemented. As much fighting will be for "border worlds" , you will begin to see combats that focus on specific houses and their mercs against that house's traditional enemies. Since small unit fights are the norm, the only real effect will probaly be that units form the smaller houses will see combat more often than the larger. That' okay with me. More game time; more experience!

I agree with Hawkeye, its really going to be dependent on how queues are going to be implemented. I wonder if queues get bad if players will flock to the less populated houses or go form Merc companies?
