PGI wanted to bring in more people by launching to steam.

More people came in... flooded CW with their trial mechs .... and got their a$$ handed to them; Frustrating both new and old players in the process.
  • People shouted... yelled to PGI not to catapult new players into T3 after they achieved they 5 first victories.
  • They told PGI time and time NOT to allow new players without 4 OWNed mechs into CW.
  • They told PGI that 4 empty mechbays for new accounts was from 2012 and the addition of CW needs at least 8 empty mechbays on new accounts.
They just wanted to flood the the so called "CW" with people... that was the furthest their thinking went.

Are you surprised?

Unbalanced Alpha version game-mode with no goal/point and a steady number of players don't even go in a sentence together.

I dropped in a couple matches last night where a 6 man team guided 6 pugs and obliterated 12 man drops each time. New players aren't the problem. Give them some guidance and they do fine. You can quick play for months and still suck at CW until you learn to coordinate.

Welcome new players, offer advice. Remember it's a (free) game. And have fun. It's giant f'ing robots killing each other over the interwebs.

.....constant patching of band-aids they put in place during the beta phase, like their pathetic matchmaking system and "ghost heat."

....complete inability to keep things "balanced" without actually physically balancing them. Everything has to be equal, except cost. For some reason, having the name "Clan" associated with anything doubles it's price, even when the IS counterpart is better because of "balancing."

....focusing all their efforts and attention on things that the paying customers want done first, without thinking about the consequences of failing to complete or fix core problems with the game that have been ongoing since Beta.

....

Seems like there aren't very many players on CW anymore? Any insight to why that is?

Very simply put.

Ceasefire and timezones.

This is, IMO, the core reason why CW/FW is so rubbish and has been for ages as there are two effects to the way ceasefire currently works

1. Due to the ceasefire and the 2hr push to take a planet, people only need focus on it in that time (predominately). Hence at the 3-4hr mark there is maybe 30 playing/queued. Yet look within the 2hrs, there can be 100s, when it's American key time. Outside of American key time there is far less in the 2hr window, but still quite a few.

So #1 leads into #2

2.In those 2hrs it's a lot of 10/12-Man's that will, most of the time, dominate the match leading to the opposing team of usually mixed/disorganised PUGs to absolutely hate the game mode because lets face it, QP is easier as they play in their tier.

This just discourages people from playing and over time has whittled down the player base due to getting stomped all the time.

I've seen people suggest a sectional/rolling ceasefire which won't make a difference at the actual 2hr push to flip a planet will still apply. It needs to not just be a % base to flip a planet, rather a different calculation that maybe takes into account the overall attacks/defs or somehow tracking group/unit tag sizes and taking it into account.

The Phase 3 splitting of Unit Tag and Tag-less queues will simply mean the same situation continues. It will also mean even LESS people to fill games, meaning queue times will be longer for a tag player trying to solo drop. IMO this will further exacerbate the 2hr-push window as all Unit Tag based players won't really get games outside of it at all.

There is also inherent problems currently with the queue system. You might have a 6 man sitting on a planet for 5mins, and say 4 PUGs (tag or no tag, doesnt matter).

Then a 8/10 man comes along and scoops up some of the PUGs leaving the group that was sitting there already waiting, high and dry. It happened to my 6 man group 4 times a couple days ago in a 3hr period. Very frustrating as it them became a 15min wait for a game - which come Phase 3 - could be even longer with tag-less players so you either 10/12 man or don't bother at all which could make it even worse.

There needs to be a better way of doing it.

Preparing itself for the nail in the coffin.

Next patch is going to be fun for about a week. Then it's going to wither and die.

Kinda surprised they even let you post trite this dumb. You're in the largest unit in the game that generically is focused on faction warfare. Yet this is what you post. C'mon you can do better than this.

It might be harsh, but it sort of rings true
Many join FW unprepared, when they get owned by the prepared they adapt or leave.
Many leave

I think that is why I responded ... because he is right. I somewhat expect 6 to 8 units to largely dominate and the rest to eventually get sick of it. I hope that isn't the case.
