I have a ridiculously overarmed DWF-B, only the CT is B, it has two S STs and two Prime arms, giving it 14 energy and two ballistic hardpoints. It's armed with 2 x UAC/5, 2 x LPL, 4 x ERML, 6 x SPL and 10 DHS.

It's the 4 x ERML + 6 SPL combo that's confusing me. I looked at a bunch of sources and couldn't find an explanation for this. Even the MWO Heat Simulator configured as closely as I could get wasn't showing the in-game results.

Heat simulator says the ERMLs are 21.37/35% heat. The SPLs are 15.37/24%. Firing both sets is 55.7/88% with 16.7/29% ghost heat. No shutdown, not even close.

In game, I get 26% for the ERMLs, 20% for the SPLs, and a pretty freakin' hard shutdown if I fire both. Maybe doing something as ridiculous as firing 10 lasers at once adds mega ghost heat that the heat simulator doesn't count?

Reason I ask that is no shutdown for the 2 X LPL + either of these sets fired together and 2 X LPL + 4 X ERML is actually two more heat than with the 6 X SPL. Plus, if I take just one SPL out I get no shutdown and 88% heat.

ERML & ERSL have the same ghost heat i beleive, ie fire more than 6 and for each addition ghost heat penalty increases.

All Clam Small and Med lasers are linked

You're getting 10 ERMLs worth of Ghost Heat added onto your alpha (highest base multiplier)

45 additional heat, according to this

That tenth one must cause 20+% heat all on its own then, since that's about the difference between 9 and 10 of them according to my DWF's meter. That doesn't seem correct according to what you're saying, unless I'm misunderstanding, which is entirely possible.

also testing ground is not always the same as in game for documenting heat and other

Ghost heat penalties are not linear, the 10th weapon causes more ghost heat than the 9th.

Here is the table for the CERML
C-ER MED LASER 6.00 12.00 18.00 24.00 30.00 36.00 48.72 63.96 82.56 105.36 136.56 184.56

There we go! Thanks, ok now that explanation aligns with what I'm seeing. I'm disappointed the MWO Heat Simulator apparently gets the answer quite wrong, and to an extent that I have to wonder whether it's a useful tool.
