... you raised Machine Gun range to something like 1km, and slightly reduced its cone of fire?

I noticed LL did it. Would it make MGs any more... useful? Long range =/ sniping weapon in this case, but as a way to harass an opponent at range?

They'd still be completely useless.

Remove the CoF entirely (or heavily reduce for the cMG)

Return the damage to 1 DPS (25% boost)

Not even addressing all the corners of the Trifecta of Suck, but it should be enough. (Trifecta of Suck being damage nerf, CritDam nerf, CritChance nerf)

i dont think a huge range buff is in order. what we need is a short range non-niche (what the current machine guns seem to be) light ballistics option in the 1.5-3 ton range. other solutions include either buffing the machine gun significantly or inflate the ballistics points on light mechs so as 6+ mg loadouts are possible. even then the tonnage gap remains and is quite atrocious. frankly its the perfect excuse for a new weapon, be it hmg/mg arrays/light rifle/lac2/magshot/whatever, and i dont care that the timeline would need to get fudged to do it.

If you keep increasing their speed, it becomes increasingly silly to have them as hitscan weapons. But buffing damage and removing cone of fire is ok.

I think MGs just need to be buffed back to their old damage values. They were decent back then. I could actually take a LCT with quad MGs and have fun.

If they are hitscan then is their animation just wrong? They seem to still have a pretty slow velocity when you actually use them.

Their animation is just an animation. I think it was 100 M/s, very slow, but they are certainly hitscan weapons.

Go to 200M, shoot, and instantly the paperdoll lights up on the target. Take the AC20 and try the same thing, it takes a quarter second for the 650M/s projectile to reach it (6.5 times faster, mind you).

MGs should probably be changed to ballistic pulse lasers. As it is, you risk too much for too little by using them as face weapons. You simply can't pack enough MGs onto a frame to do any amount of damage in their current state.

I wonder what would happen if all of us simultaneously tweeted Paul about mg's.
