The thrice cursed Windows 10 wont even play a movie using media player for some reason. Its a legit movie from store. The new Wolverine movie.

Can anyone help? Windows 10 wouldn't even play music or go on the internet properly at first but this one just says movies are unsupported... I have no idea how to get around it.

It gives me the option to use shady third party programs I have never heard of, the first of which is 20 dollars but that doesn't seem like a legit option.

This is on a new top end computer how is it possible it wont even play a movie. This is like the twilight zone that every single thing can be broken on a new computer and needs to be fixed.

Included in clean installs of Windows 10 as well as upgrades to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 or Windows 7. DVD playback isn't included. Go to the DVD playback for Windows page to find out how to add DVD playback to Windows 10.

You are better off using another program to play your movies. You do not need to use the Apps in the Store. I use VLC, the stand alone, not the Windows Store version.

Thanks. I found this.

Important notes for the app
Notice that the following conditions are true to the Windows DVD Player app:
•This free offer is available for a limited time.
•The app isn't available if you do a clean installation of Windows 10 instead of an upgrade.
•If you upgrade from an edition of Windows 7 or Windows 8 that doesn’t include Media Center, you may buy the Windows DVD Player or another app that plays DVDs in the Windows Store.

assuming it is a DVD not Blu Ray then I recomend VLC Media Player, it is free and works with the vast majority of video file types.

im of the opinion that an operating system should not be a suite of default applications. winders, osx, linux are all guilty of this. it should just be a framwork to run other software. the less of the os you use, the better.

reactos just hit 0.4. im gonna stick with 8.1 until it becomes unbearably slow and then jump ship for reactos, they should be in beta by then. i have a hunch that most updates are meant to slow your machine down to force you to upgrade software and trick you into updating hardware. seriously you can go 5 years before you start seeing significant differences in cpu performance now. my last two builds felt like "why did i just throw my money away". and that was moving two ticks and a tock along the i7 line. video card people are still playing catch up so there is still benefits upgrading ever couple years there, but it too will hit the wall. most of the performance increases over the last several years have been from the ssd drives.

Could not recommend VLC more. Most PC user's use VLC, because it's free, legitimate, and works amazingly, with a long history of being awesome.

I still have not had a single problem with Win10 since its first day.

vlc as a player is awesome. ive yet to encounter a video it cant play. its netcasting freatures leave something to be desired. i tried to rig up a closed circuit video system so i could monitor my 3d printer from a floor down. never could get the stream to work. i ended up using a wireless security camera instead.

VLC is by and far the best media player about. It plays everything, without having to find codecs scattered about (many of which come from very sketchy sources).

Me either, actually. Mind you, I use none of the Windows Store apps, or any of the built in Windows apps, because... why bother? There's so many better third party apps, all of which I've been using for years - decades in many cases.

Lolno. They're not going to start charging for regular updates (note: If they DID start charging for Windows 10 updates? They'd start charging for Win7 updates too. Think, before you put on your tinfoil hat)

Also: Going to Win7 isn't a long term solution. It'll reach EOL soon enough, just like previous versions of windows.

Linux? I love Linux, run it on several machines at home (not to mention my various Android devices, which are all fundamentally also Linux) . But it's not a good option for one's gaming rig, unless you've got very lucky gaming taste.

Put 10 onto my laptop...

And after disabling all their information gathering garbage, and doing some customization... I cant say that its garbage, but I also cant say that its any good. I've also found the app store very silly. No thanks, I'll keep using my third party software.

I still prefer 7, but eventually I will make the switch with my DeskTop . . .

In about four years or so.
