I was just wondering if we will have the option to change our picked founder merc while playing the open beta that launches on August 7th? Reason being is I don't necessarily want to shell out $120 for 4 founder mechs, but I am not really sure what class type I will enjoy playing as. So, at the moment, I have just blindly picked the jenner but I'm not really certain that's what I actually want...

I believe whatever happens after August 7th is permanent. If you want something changed you better figure it out before then.

I doubt there is going to be a "Oh I tried this mech and didn't like it" button.

you can probably change once you start playing the beta, but I don't know whether you have to choose which mech before playing or whether it just gives you a redeemable credit for one of the mechs.

Ah damn I'm the type of player who picks one thing he likes and just focuses on developing it for a long time, so I'm not really desiring 3 extra mechs...any guidelines what of playstyle to expect from each founder mech? I know the Jenner is supposed to be somewhat of an interceptor and the atlas is sort of like your big gun, but I don't really know what else to expect.

I did play Mechwarriors 4 Mercenarios quite a bit, but I hear that game was not really a "traditional" Mechwarriors game, so Idk what to think

Each founder mech fills one of the weight classes which all have roles to play in the game. (these descriptions are general and may not always apply) Light mechs like the Jenner are scouts used for spotting enemies and snatching bases. Mediums like the Hunchback can fill scouting duties and have the maneuverability to outflank enemies. Heavies like the Catapult and Assault mechs like the Atlas are fire-support generally and use the scouting data to put pressure where it's needed.
