So far the 4v4 Scouting mode in CW has been pretty fun. I understand why PGI went with the 55 ton limit and what the aim was with the objective and how tying it in to the 12v12 mode was fulfilling some people's wishes for a more integrated feeling in CW.

But playing it has made me realize even more just how badly this game needs a 4v4 and 8v8 quick play mode. I understand PGI apparently went with 12v12 to cut some costs but it really just doesn't suit the game. All the new people I've brought to this game absolutely hate 12v12 but seem to like 4v4 much better.

4v4 already works pretty well on the existing maps. Avoiding the sometimes lengthy process getting a CW game (even 4v4) running, as well as avoiding the really annoying ceasefire "feature" in CW would go a long way to increasing this game's playability and offering a much-needed variety.

A quick play option with either a 1light/1medium/1heavy/1assault or just a semi-flexible tonnage limit seems ideal. And it seems like implementing this would take very little effort and time. I would really appreciate a straight answer from PGI if this something they plan on doing or would consider.

I would love to see 8v8 make a return to regular play. I don't understand why it's the tournament format but not played outside of private matches.

As long as there are other modes beyond skirmish in those numbers as well. I actually like the data collection and extraction aspect of scout mode.

It's alright, I feel it missed the mark because it does't really give an incentive to fight the enemy directly. I think a much better option would be a capture-the-flag kind of thing with 1 intel or so, but there would have to be a team tonnage limit to avoid people just camping with 4 55 ton mechs.

What I like best about Scouting is that it's light and mediums only.

Lights and mediums haven't really had a natural place in the game, between the only real objective being killing mechs, maps being small, and all of us having effectively unlimited resources. So everyone and his dog plays heavies and up.

Scouting guarantees lights and mediums a separate arena to duke it out, and I like that. Been playing a lot on the Liao-Davion front, and I've been loving the dueling between Shadow Hawks, Griffins, Wolverines, Centurions, and a good number of lights too.

I've been surprised by how well the maps work for 4-vs-4. Polar Highlands kind of made me wish I had a LAM though. If they make a public queue generic 4-vs-4 mode, I groan at the thought of two 50-60 kph heavy/assault lances on Polar.

I like the mode as well since I prefer to play mediums anyway, but I feel that in a 4v4 situation lights and mediums would have their place regardless - especially with an overall tonnage limit and given the increased value in knowing enemy locations than it is in a 12v12 death ball/nascar.

OK so if you had listened to any of the last 5 town halls you would know that 1v1 , 2v2 and 4v4 are on the way
They will be added via the Solaris module currently being designed

If your interested in this feature , get your self a few buddies with premium time (you need 2 ppl with premium)
Host a private lobby and play test the 1v1 , 2v2 and 4v4 test maps
Then after you have played them a bunch ...like 10+ games
Go to the feedback forum for those maps

You can see the changes to the maps that were made to them in the last patch notes

Not sure how you guys been playing it but 90% of the matches end in the death of the other team for me. Might as well add in a heavy/assault mode.

Any more details you got? Or was it just that it was "on the way". Also, what about 8v8? Did russ say anything about that?

Well, considering that in private matches there's prototype maps for 1v1, 2v2s, and 4v4s, I'd say they're on their way here in a few months with Solaris. 8v8s should be coming as well, considering some Solaris matches include FFAs that include 16 mechs.

OP, Yes, apparently we are getting some new match types with "Solaris". No set release date on it though, but I "Assume", it will be a combination of "Free-for-all" and "X vs X" modes (X being 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, etc) Arena style combat, Maps will be small, but still utilizing cover and such. Anyone who played MW4 Mercenaries, would understand how Solaris works, commentators, cheering fans, etc.. However, for now, you'll have to be satisfied with the Scouting in FW.

"Should" be fun, PGI keeps surprising us with "Little things", Those nice little voice overs telling you your objective at the start of the match? Very nice touch, Makes MWO "Feel" more like a true Mechwarrior title.

That's all Solaris will be. Limited size skirmish on maps you like less than the quick play ones.

As long as we get Roman style pillars in an oval arena for one map.

Would upping the weight limit to 60 tons to give all those fast heavies that don't see a lot of use some play be good, or would it ruin the whole light/medium vibe?

Sounds good to me. More options on how to play the game (and still earn cbills) is always a positive way to go.
