A charmingly arrogant reply and Trust me, I know who's talking. You are not new to me, and I did notice your pretty Tier 1 status logo and that you have supplied over 5,000 posts, of which I'd already read quite a few. I also understand you and the upper tiers have your brawler builds and tactics finely tuned for the current play modes. I also respect that you have reached that level of play and continue to hold have an active part in the games direction.

I haven't been here long, therefore I don't have a history yet, so I consider you the one at a disadvantage. But I expect to change that as time goes on. I can tell you that I'm in no way new to computers, networks, communications, military tactics and strategies. I like MWO because I see potential to apply some of my knowledge and experience to have some real fun.

WAR 101: Never underestimate the capabilities of a potential opponent by assuming your own superiority. The technology and tactics that apply today may not carry the war of tomorrow, because everything changes. Therefore you must be ready to adapt to the changes, not just for your survival but for the survival of all you hold dear.

But...but...in another thread, there are people insisting that anyone carrying ECM MUST COVER those without it simply because "it's their reponsibility" and they should be glad to do it getting no reward for it while their team mates benefit and amass points for damage.

Russ and crew obviously agree because you get SQUAT for doing that, so don't get your hopes up because this issue is just one in a long list of improvements to the game that we will likely never see.

Team play = what wins matches. What wins matches = killing enemy mechs. Good teams/players do not use AMS because it's not useful and they take ECM as only one small factor into consideration and rarely if ever use it for "team shielding." Support mechs are unknown among good teams/players because effective combat mechs are always better. So, yeah, to support my team, I kill the enemy. Incentivizing suboptimal behavior promotes bad gameplay and is thus bad for the game. This bad idea just keeps coming up, though.


My missile umbrella Kit Fox has I believe the highest W/L ratio of all my mechs, so I tend to think the support role isn't quite dead. Granted that KFX also has a decent damage average, so I don't just stand around feeling good about my AMS/ECM.

Now I agree killing 'mechs is what wins games. But bear in mind that dead team mates don't kill 'mechs. So I'd argue it's a bit more complex than every 'mech's sole role being killing enemy 'mechs, and that there might in fact be a niche for that one guy who's also working on keeping friendlies safe.

I'll grant this might be tier dependent. My clanner alt is down in T3, and LRM's are alive and well there.

This game isn't about supporting mechs...it's about killing mechs, no?

I mean...if it was about supporting mechs, you'd think PGI would have incentivized that type of behavior. Clearly, that's not the type of gameplay they are trying to foster.
