I'm not sure what's worse.

That there are people bashing your builds for being "meta" like when kids who score poorly on tests make fun of the smart kids who want to do well and graduate.

or

That those guys think those builds are too meta, when they aren't even really anything close to meta.

I would consider getting new friends.

The metagame is the game within the game. The game is ostensibly about shooting each other with mechs, but there is the metagame that is about minmaxing based on the current set of rules. That's why people refer to it as meta - it's playing the metagame.

That's why there has to be a very strong effort at balance. Because 'spirit' pales in comparison to 'dominant strategy.'

When you balance a game, you are really doing it to protect against those who would exploit any advantage to the detriment of the game. In the multiplayer FPS scene, that accounts for a pretty large percentage of players, who are only there to 'win'.

Which is why a part of me things one of the worst aspects of the game is the unlimited mechlab. One will never kill the meta completely, but one can strip it down as much as possible. PGI has made their choice. Doesn't mean I have to like and I'm obviously still here railing against it too so I haven't quit either. :D

First, laser vomit is not the meta. It's a tool to meet the meta under some conditions, but it's not the ultimate solution to everything.

They are solid and flexible, but there are cases where you don't want them. If compelled to brawl, they will get demolished. They will also get demolished if the map is conducive to range.

I know, but when you get multiple kills and people lash-out at you for running broken builds, one must question the legitimacy of said boats... I would feel bad if my LoLOP Rifleman was, indeed, just a Crutch that carries me.

One must also question the validity of the claims made by the people who lash out.

Spoiled children lash out (regardless of age) but this doesn't make what they say more valid.

If you can kill other mechs and are having fun it doesn't matter... usually I change my loadout when I'm getting consistently killed early... dual Guass or AC20s is a ALOT of fun in this game! :) 4 LBXs... well I find 4 UAC5s still kills better but its up to you.

Yikes OP, those are horrible, though if you like them, run them how you want. Not anyone's place to tell you what to use anyway. People laugh at my Rifleman (ac 20, 2 mg, 4 ml), and yet I tend to average 350-450 damage per match. Remember, MWO is a game, if you're having fun it doesn't matter what you use. Sure there are good/bad builds, but you learn what works for you by trying builds. Don't worry about using "Meta" builds as they aren't for everyone, I only have 3 mechs using a "Meta" build, and I came up with them on my own until a member of my unit pointed it out to me that I was using them (though mine tend to be slightly different from the standard meta).

Dual AC 20 Black widow on Polar highlands was fun. Ending a game with 2 kills and 5 assists, ridiculous amount of damage. Someone messaged me mid game with WHAT DID YOU DO?!?!

I didn't care about ghost heat and had fun, that's what I did.

Rule One Have FUN.

Thats why they are usually paired with medium lasers. Clan Lrge Pulse is better at range, tripple IS large pulse brawls better.

Dual AC20 is one of those builds that everyone should run at least once a month just for the sheer, stupid joy of it.

Meta builds aren't the issue here.

The problem is people allowing their mechs to be destroyed by people using meta builds.

If we all practiced meta builds destroying our mechs abstinence, problems would cease to be problems.

Wouldn't it be the game without the game? The game that looks beyond the limitations of the "spirit of the game" to the broader possibilities allowed by the ruleset? ;)

OP... Why are you letting other people tell you how to play the game? Play what you want! Does your mother still dress you in the morning? For **** sake, grow a pair boy!

IKR? Park still hits team chat asking permission to run whatever build he's brung prior to each match. Disconnects if everyone says it's bad.... Posted Image Sad really. Then posts like this one... best just to humor him, however. He gives away MC, PT and mech packs to his "friends" constantly, and tends to comfortably average the PSR of whatever group he's in.

This is the only underhive-approved build:

Anything else makes you a meta humping tryhard that is ruining the game. You actually have to think to use this build.

You're using Endo-Steel, you unskilled crutchwarrior. True skilled Mechwarriors use Ferro-Fibrous instead of Endo-Steel.

Also, you should use SHS if you want to have any level of heat management skill whatsoever.

SRMS are better at brawling though, that's why they are used SO much in competitive play. Laser vomit is not the end all solution. The disorder and randomness of the public queue just make it typically a solid option.

OP, if your build can be "alpha'd" for more than 30 damage, you are a try-hard COD crowd player that can only handle twitch shooters. Stop turning this game into alpha warrior online.
