In the mechlab, it's described that both the Clan small laser and the Clan small pulse laser generates the same amount of heat (3, specifically)

Yet during testing, firing the same amount of small lasers, I generate more heat with the small pulse laser than I do with the small laser.

Why is this? Is this a bug? If not, it should be reflected in the mechlab.

Differnt burn duration.
While the laser burns, the heat sinks dissipate some of the heat.
The SPL creates the same amount of heat in a shorter time, hence more effective heat.

It's not a bug.

Consider that the recycle time of a laser is tied to both its cooldown and its beam duration. A C-SPL and a C-ERSL both generate the same amount of heat per firing, but the C-SPL will generate more heat more quickly because it's generating the same amount of heat over a shorter period of time. Even if you were to fire just a single alpha, you'd notice that C-SPLs will actually end up generating more heat over its beam duration, because your heatsinks haven't worked the same amount.

25% short burn duration, 25% faster heat generation, but you start fully dissipating 25% sooner

you might have more heat sinks on your small laser mech, therefore a higher threshold.

just tested.
6 cspl on a arctic cheetah. 1 alpha 29%
just swapped for cersl.. (3 tons light) 1 alpha 28%

i think the 1% discrepancy has to do with the longer duration of the cersl. that 1% dissipates with the burn.

Wasnt the small pulse more heat efficient at some point? Did they nerf the small pulse, or buff the er small laser?

No, both previously had 2 heat, but it was a simultaneous nerf.
You just get more damage, less range, same heat.

Would be great if IS small lasers were buffed to 4 and 5 damage with maybe a .5 heat increase.
