what kind of garbage lie is this ? coming from a person whos only competitive experience is from mwo?

- Played competitively in MW3. 2 undefeated seasons in a row playing for [FC] in league play.
- Played competitively in MW4 as part of [WiX].
- Played competitively in Aliens vs. Predator 2, CS:S, and Halo as part of the large, multi-game group =EP=.
- Played competitively in MW4: Mercs as part of the Black Scorpions {BS}.
- Had a brief competitive stint in MWLL with Clan Wolf.

I play CS:GO and other games too, but I have yet to play competitively in those, in terms of practicing and competing with a single unit for the purpose of competition. For example, I play the competitive queue in CS:GO, but I am not part of a unit nor league, so I don't consider that competitive play. On the other hand, when I was with =EP= for CS:S, we played a season in CAL, so I do consider that competitive play.

You solve that by making it where the enemy is trying to capture the convoy, not destroy it. If 50% of the convoy is destroyed it ends up in a tie. If for some reason the defenders try to destroy their own convoy, they take as much penalty as if they had shot up some teammates.

If the defenders get 50% of the convoy to the point then they win. Part of the convoy would have little tanks with medium lasers that could be destroyed.

Convoy would also travel at 80 kph so that assaults would be a detriment.

It's not hard to make these ideas work within MWO, but it is hard to get folks off of the idea that 'kill everything' is the best option.

But you see that can't work with the current matchmaker since you don't pick your mech after selecting game mode. It also means most medium and heavy mechs will have to upgrade their engines as a requirement (not saying they don't already).

How would the capture mechanic work? Just proximity? Could it be prevented? If so wouldn't it just make the game a quick close quarters brawl, most likely over in 2 minutes? Wouldn't the defenders just have to leg the attackers to make victory impossible?

thing is, every game mode = deathmatch.

until they incorporate drop ship mode in solo que, any, and every game mode will become a death match.

Domination is a game mode that would do wonderfully with Dropship.... but it's always a death match in close proximity.

The variety of game modes is more of a "preventative" play style vs. a true game mode. I.E. Domination = Brawler deathmatch, Conquest = Snipe and move deathmatch , Assault = Normal deathmatch, deathmatch = nascar deathmatch.

if Dropship mode is to incentive FW....... stop. It's killing what could otherwise be a great game.

@aresye: Stay away with respawns. This would ruin the entire game. If you need respawns because you prefer dumb bruteforce-tactics then you should find your satisfaction in playing a different game.
Thanks

Because the game is currently doing oh so well and swarming with tons of new players every day because it offers such deep and meaningful game modes, right?

You can't say that respawns would ruin the game because there is absolutely no basis to support that, aside from your own opinion. You could say it would ruin the game..."for you"...but that's pretty much the maximum extent you can go with it.

All I know is:
- This game suffers from its inability to attract and maintain new players.
- This game is single round, single life, no respawn, with a high learning curve.

The two are likely correlated.

You may be fine with keeping it the way it is, keeping MWO pure from any similarities to modern day FPS, and I respect that, but eventually MWO is going to go away, and very likely the MW IP will die along with it. MWO's main player base is already comprised of mostly older MW vets (including myself), because the game is too niche and too obscure to appeal to the majority of younger gamers.

Now, if MW had NEVER had any form of respawn whatsoever, that would be one thing, but that's not the case. MW2, MW3, and MW4 all had respawn. MW4 also happened to maintain a fairly active player base even after Microsoft cut off all matchmaking support, thanks to MekTek. It didn't really start becoming a ghost down until many years after.

The point is, MW4 had respawn, and it did absolutely FINE. MW3 had respawn, and it did absolutely FINE. MWLL had respawn, and it was doing fine...until MWO came out and they ceased development on it.

Respawn isn't what would kill MWO. The current game is doing enough already in that regard.
