I too am grateful for the game and really do enjoy many aspects of it.
That said, what upsets a lot of folks, especially folks who do spend significant $ to support PGI, is their slow pace of development, their utter indiference to the core IP of the BT and MW universe, and thier seeming "dart board in the dark" to balance, game play features, and efforts in fixing known problems.
So yes I agree with the OP that PGI does desirve our thanks for giving us a lovely F2P game; yet I also believe that If PGI wants me to keep financially supporting their efforts then they need to be criticised when appropriate and their feet held to the fire for not making it better.
Great Job Pgi!

So lets get this right...
'Normal' non F2P games you pay a 60 $ tag and then if the game is crap... well tough luck, you lucked out, cry over your wasted money.
Here you get to play for free... spend as much time as you want trying to get the next mech you like and only IF you feel like it you can spend some money to get something faster.
And people complain. LOL.
You can always wait and not buy the new shinny mech on release day or just not buy anything at all. Only mechbays have a real cost and the various rewards from time to time as well as FW gives these for free as well.
As for grinding... this is also a joke. You play and have fun, you collect Cbills and buy more mechs you like. Of course its a grind cause its a game. Is there any game that learning it doesnt require grinding? My 200+ hours played on CS:GO were not a grind... they were me having fun! My 300+ played hours on Blood Bowl also were fun while also 'grinding' to level my teams.
This isnt WOW were grinding = no actual benefit other than a RANDOM gear drop... its a FPS with a Niche style theme. You play to get better, to compete and to also get in game money for more mechs!!! If at any point you decide NOT to grind and keep playing the 2-3-5-10 mechs you like you dont have to grind a single hour more...
Getting a new mech from zero skills to all competencies unlocked takes at most a couple of hours so thats also not about grinding by the way...
And to stay on topic...
I absolutely agree. Been here 2 months, have bought 1 thing and been gifted another and I am loving the game. I have 'grinded' 8 mechbays and have now a total 'fleet' of 16 mechs and they are more than enough for me. I use them in 1vs1 matches, 12 vs 12 quickplays and FW alike and having a blast.

I've been having a pretty good time since beta.
PGI has gotten loads of flak over the years and I can see why they could be a bit worn out by now with every single decision they make having a load of protesters.
You got a load of people who hate the game just because they have to play it. I mean, really people are mad that they have to level their mechs when in many games gaining XP and money and new equipment over time is a core part of the game. Its like people are asking PGI to just give them everything all elited and kitted out for free and instantly whenever it comes out.
If you ever try just playing the game and having fun you realize your mechs would seem to nearly level up all on their own and your cbill stores will be large enough to buy what you want.
EDIT:
Why are there so many bitter vets anyway? I'd expect after awhile they'd just stop playing if they find the game so grindy and unfun, but they've just stayed around. Masochists maybe?

You guys never get the love you should have so here is a send some love comment.
Thank you for an exhilarating free game where there is no monthly fee and I can blow up other people's mechs with many different options of weapons.
It is always hard to keep a free game in service, server costs, staff costs, and many other associated costs.. So I Teron Gorefiend appreciate all the hard work you guys do whether it be spicing up factions or releasing of new maps or anything you do to make the game more interesting. Thank you Sirs! (and mams)

I'll second this. Without a doubt, MWO is the best free-to-play game I've ever had the pleasure of playing. Nearly all the others wound up going the pay-to-win route, but PGI has done an amazing job keeping MWO completely f2p. Despite all their flaws, PGI has definitely crafted the best incarnation of MechWarrior to date too.
Kudos and keep up the good work!

The game is fine so long as you don't take it too seriously and play it casually. Otherwise you're going to become extremely frustrated in the long run.

Ignore the incoming dullards that will surely flame this thread.
I've been gaming since the early eighties, hell I remember when Pong was the lick.
Yep I'm a Grandpa Gamer.
And I can honestly say this game is in the top five I've ever played.
Nuff said.

Yes, I'm sure that's working as intended, especially that whole half damage=14M death sphere difference affair
Shooty Stompy Robots is nice and all...but they fall into ruts of stagnation, with massive changes every few months, but no meaningful changes inbetween.
That's my complaint.
