You'd think it would be in the FAQ.

You'd think, yeah.

But we know how it works and why (until they change it, of course), so it's not really that big of a deal.

The way it works is that you can only purchase extra pods from the Mechs in the standard or Collector's packs. You cannot purchase extra pods from the Mechs in the Reinforcements because PGI cannot enable that ability on a person-by-person basis. Either everyone can buy those pods, or no one can buy them. So since allowing everyone to buy them would make it basically pointless to buy the Reinforcement pack in the first place, no one can buy them until the Mech is available for purchase using c-bills.

You can, however, strip the pods off of any variant you own and use those pods on any other variant that you own. You just can't buy the Reinforcements or Hero pods for any reason until the Mechs are available for c-bills.

Note: that likely means that Hero omnipods will never be available for purchase. Don't ever sell them, because you probably won't be able to re-purchase them even to use on your Hero variant.

You win the most useful post of the day award, it's concise informative and is useful, a rare thing these days.

your prize is a pat on the head, I hope you are feeling great now ;)

It looks to be a beast, frankly. Too bad it also looks almost too ugly to pilot. Dat paint job on the hero version, tho'.

Bleh, depending on how the ominpod situation works, I may just buy the basic package and then stick them in the garage until the other pods become available.

Well, on second glance, the original pods aren't bad either. Just not as much fun.

It's unfortunate, I didn't mind people have the reinforcement options with the IS mechs even if I never buy them for real money, but with clans it actually does screw things up a bit more.

If the B's ballistics are as high on the torsos as the energy mounts are on the concept art it's torsos will bake for dual gauss snipers or UAC10 hill humpers. Being able to combine that with some energy mounts on the arms and head, as back up, will be splendid. Basically, I would only want the C variant for it's right arm, and the D for it's torso. Clever putting those two as the extras, as it allows you to "complete the set" only if you pay up, but I guess that's fair enough.

Really a great Mech and you paint it like a parrot?
No way - and i really loved this Mech in tt
But somebody had the stupid idea to remove the smoke jaguars instead of those narcistic parrots

Well, I really look forward to owning the Night Gyr. When it's available for C-bills, of course. Looks like it's going to be a fantastic mech. Jump jets + dual gauss in the arms on a 75 ton mech that can potentially bring 4 energy weapons on top of that? Sounds like it's going to be a helluvalot of fun.

Not sure what they were thinking with the hero mech though. Why would you buy that hero mech, except to boat missiles? And then why would you boat missiles on a slow 65 kph Clan mech? Seems like the Summoner will do a better job, moving at 90 kph.

To slightly rain on your parade, you can't actually do 2 Gauss + 6 energy because the Gauss have to go in the arms. The side torsos only have 5 slots each. Thus, you actually get up to 4 lasers.

I can't remember if the Hero variant gives bonus C-Bills as well, or just the Special Variant. Anyone know?

So, I was right concerning the Hero: it turns out to be just so-so because we (they) can't make it as a must have. But they could have made it at least more interesting by giving it a special quirk like the Hellsinger's to simulate the Laser Heatsinks or maybe LAAs like some people suggested.

EDIT: oops, I missed the special Laser Heatsink tidbits on the FAQ.

Seems like it would be better to get the Hero upgrade instead of the special version then....

the special version at double price is a rip off (on any pack).
Basic pack and hero is the best deal.

If hitboxes will be good, this thing will be wiping the floor with the Timber wolf and Black Knight.

My power creep sense is tingling.

I honestly think those huge shoulders are going to be its downfall, too easy to target and destroy, at least timber is fast to hide its ears, this mech will not be able to do that. Only good point is man, it does carry weapons...

All in all this will be the clan Mauler, a mech that can shred you to your atomic substance in seconds if left unchecked but easy to neutralize otherwise.

heh funny how subjective these things are, to me it's the only Clan mech beside MDD that is not ugly, main reason i chose IS over Clan was because all Clan mechs were ugly to me :D
