Hey guys!

Haven't played since alpha, but my friends and I are back. Short version: we're loving it and I'm looking to get into MWO (particularly Faction Warfare) in a big way. We tried to pick the most underdog faction we could find and be part of raising it to glory. Shout out to Smoke Jaguar.

So I guess my question really boils down to: is the Masakari collection a good selection of mechs for someone playing FW as a Clan? I know that's a loaded question. You may be thinking "omg masakari what a noob" "P2W!" "well it may be worth it to you" etc. etc.

I have a lot of disposable income. I'm going to buy some mechwarrior. I do like the warhorns and clan swag that comes with it. Is it a good/powerful selection of Mechs, or is there another shopping method you recommend (a la carte, X hero mech etc.) Perhaps half of those mechs are bad, or I don't know, you tell me! (Please!)

Currently I have a TRB-S Timberwolf and an Arctic Cheetah that I bought with the starting boost of cadet C-Bills. But the rest of my drop-deck ends up being trial mechs, and I would like to have some options in really crafting my dropdeck.

Thanks for your time, and help.

What seem to be the best clan mechs (based on owning some, fighting them, and consensus on the boards) and some thoughts on them:

Timber Wolf (own, solid, versatile mech that can do almost anything fairly well, biggest downside is that people know it is good and it will be target #1 over anything smaller than an assault)

Artic Cheetah (good mech, tried the trial just not my play style, but died to many of them)

Mad Dog (own, almost undisputed best missile platform for SRMs or LRMs)

Ebon Jaguar (own, solid mech, versatile, no complaints)

Storm Crow (own, can do almost any style build except JJ or ECM, only 1 Ballistic slot max, with the 55 ton limit for FW scouting it tears up scout missions against lights/mediums as a 5xSRM6 build or 5xSteak6 build)

Hellbringer (do not own, have not piloted at all, has ECM decent tonnage and a good reputation over all)

War Hawk (do not own, have tried the trial, its a mini-Dire Wolf without most of the drawbacks of the Dire and more speed)

out of the Masikazi Collection, you get the best Clan Medium (Stormcrow), arguably the best Heavy (Timber Wolf) and the 2 contenders for best current Clan Assault (that may change when the Kodiak is released in 2 weeks), as for the other Mechs, Kit Fox these days is only really good for a support build taking advantage of its LRM immunity with the ECM and 3 AMS, the Adder can take heavy weapons for its size, Nova is the ultimate energy boat (in terms of number of guns at least), and Summoner is a heavy without enough hard points for lots of small weapons but not the tonnage for more than 2 large weapons.

Wave 3 Ebon Jag pack + the Kodiak pack and origins IIC Orion pack would give you almost as many options significantly cheaper unless you specifically want the Dire, Warhawk, Timber and Stormcrow.

Thank you thank you thank you, this is really helpful, and exactly the information I am looking for. When you said contenders for best Clan Assault is that the Warhawk and Direwolf? Or....Summoner and Warhawk?

Madcat package + Jenner-IIC would be better than Masakari IMHO.

do that and the only Clan assault you have is the Dire, which seems to be love it or hate it (I think the Warhawk is infinitely better than the Dire, which I really hate), however I agree that the Jenner IIC is really good
