Hows about they reopen the test servers, and have an alternate version of MWO as they envision it. I would love to re-explore all the knockdowns and stuff they wanted in the game.
We could still test whatever features they throw in there (test lab). But we could do it in PGI land.

Basically it would be a "what if" scenario. In which we would have the opportunity to see Mechwarrior without any funder (you) influence.

Oh yeah... please dont use this as an opportunity to complain about whether or not PGI should listen to the community. I want a playground!!

So they do the opposite of what the players are asking? Just like what we have?

Seriously though, servers are money, and they're busy making mech packs, it would have to be a player founded thing with open software, which won't happen.

Oh damn, is it really that complicated for them to have a test server?.... **** i forgot about the money thing....

Still! I would like it if it were possible.

We did have that PTS server for a while to test some stuff. I didn't have internet at the time so I couldn't test it out, but I thought it was a great idea. Sadly they scrapped all the good stuff, like some mechs having more powerful sensors, ECM not being a hard counter to missiles, CAP/BAP not being hard counters to ECM.....

I suspect the PTS server is being re-purposed as the MWO Tournament server so we likely won't see any PTS sessions for the rest of this year.

Why go through all the trouble of repurposing. In this era of virtualization it's not necessary....

Because they have a limited set of hosts, and server time costs money. Virtualization allows for *rapid* re-purposing.

All you gotta do is turn down one VM and turn up another. I'm not arguing with the cost and reasoning, but VM is no big deal. I do it all the time.

Which is re-purposing the host, right? It's no longer running the PTS workload/VMs, it's running the Tournament workload/VMs.

Depending on hardware, it could be "in addition to" and not just a platform repurpose. These are game designers, i expect their hardware to be beefy.

I just assumed the internet was magic.... or some Darpa project... I have no Idea what you're talking about.

Is it not as simple as a guy getting on the floor, unplugging a cord, and plugging it back in somewhere else?
