At the Town Hall, Russ stated the BJ was to get bigger...and that made me sad.
I find the BJ to be the most reasonably sized, not a "55 ton mech size" 45 tonner such as the Vindi, or a voluminous torso like the SadCat.
Fridge is just hideous.

Another thing thing he said: After all the mechs are normalized in size, they will be quirked if they get gimped.
I'm almost expecting a lulzy doubled structure on BJs, because it would have a certain irony to it.
"We nerfed the BJ because it was too powerful, therefore we're also making it bigger so we can quirk it again, so we can nerf it again"

Or in album form if you prefer (I think one or two I didn't link, some are just mirrored)

In other news, TIL, there's an orthographic Blender camera option that I had no knowledge about...this will make things easier and more accurate. If I make another collection that is...I guess after the rescale, I can make a grand comparison between the New and Old models.
Now that I know about the Ortho camera, and HOW TO LEVEL the camera, they should come out better. Those couple degrees off really bugged me.

I say, if we're normalizing the volume of all the mechs, then normalize ALL OF THEM

No exceptions.

"Bigger"

Can mean 1% volume increase or 300% volume increase. Russ has never mentioned the BJ as having major scale issues so my guess would be <5%.

I'm going to wait until after I see all the rescaled mechs next to each other ingame to make any judgments about the "proper" rescaling for each.

Normalization went so well last time...where pulse lasers were rendered rubbish for the better part of two years...

Mech scale is an important part of balance, and BJ is a solid size, unlike the Vindi

That's because Paul was behind it.

I don't think Paul is behind the mech-rescaling.
So it might not be THAT bad.

Shut up!
You are part of that dark side of community wanting to "strongly recommend" how pgi should develop its own game.

NOPE! Don't do it.

Insert "pgi! we totally know what we are doing" meme here.

(On a serious note, all mech should be rescaled ...down rescaled. Because they are all too big.
I remember to have read a thread about that, very long time ago. By Koniving, if I'm not wrong....)

I tried to warn you people, but ya'll insisted that this was the ultimate road to salvation and world peace for all of humankind.

Now you reap what you sow. "55 ton mech size" as Russ calls it will only become more common as a result of this process...and the reason most people asked for this was to SOLVE that problem. Posted Image

I'll be making the comparison either way...

I hope the Cute Fox sees big improvement. And the SadCat.

Yeah Mcgral, it's like I was saying in the Twitch chat. Instead of making the oversized mechs smaller, they seem to be making the properly sized ones bigger. See: Blackjack, Crab, Grasshopper, Zeus.

Do the Gargoyle and Victor get smaller? Nope, we'll just make the only decently sized 80 tonner larger.

To those who argued me down when I talked about how their new scaling system is flawed, here is my proof. If the "science", as Russ called it last night, is telling them to make the well sized mechs bigger, then they're either using flawed science, or they are simply reading it incorrectly and making flawed conclusions.

Not sure what the big deal is... look at those cockpit high weapon hardpoints the Blackjack has. They could balloon it up to the size of the Archer, and it would still be kick-***.

Nooo.... the BJ is one of the few perfected mech. Why not fix some of the oversized mediums?

Well, it can't really protect its STs from outside that position (and some have restrictive torso yaw on top of that)

It's an offensive advantage, but defensive downside.

Since when is there an official size for every mech? Every source I've seen has conflicting sizes and I've never seen one that has been stated as "official" or "canon".

Besides that, mechs in this game have geometry that varies from the source. Some are skinnier, others thicker. If every mech was scaled to some sort of table-top scale, many would be far too big or small.

IMO, mechs should be scaled versus each other in THIS game, not against some other source that isn't representative of accurate scale in this environment.

Actually, in the "lore" many mechs are sized incredibly dumbly. The famous Clan Omnimech scale chart is the worst example of this.

What are some of the sins here?
-60 ton mech being the same size as a 75 ton mech
-85 ton mech being the same size as a 100 ton mech
-80 ton mech being the same size as a 95 ton mech
-All of the heavies rivaling the 100-ton assault in size
-20 ton mech being almost the same size as a 100 ton mech

Tabletop's scaling is really, really broken beyond any form of salvaging.

I can agree with that.
But, even if there is no source we can agree that medium are tooooo muuuch big. Look at the griffin, the size of an Atlas.
If they are going to make the bj even bigger, that's mean what? They are going to double the Altas for a new volumetric system? Posted Image
