So according to the rules, if a team can not muster the 8 players on it's roster that it needs to do the match, the team forfeits the match and is disqualified? Disqualified from what? The match or the entire tournament? I have asked several people who have read it, and nobody can say for sure.

If it is anything like MRBC, then the team would just loose that particular match, but the rules as posted by PGI are not so clear.

Is there anybody here who can shed some light on this?

In rules, under team roster:

tournament rules said:

If you do not have any additional Members to cover the absence of a Member who is not able to participate in a Match or in the Tournament, or if you are otherwise unable to field 8 players in a match for whatever reason, your Team will be disqualified.

I think it's clear, if you can't field 8 players in a match, it's over for the whole tournament for you. Which is why there has been such an uproar about limiting the roster to 12 people in this long time frame. Well, reasonably clear, by PGI standards.

12 players aside, this reason that the team can get disqualified is ludicrous. PGI really needs to clarify that rule because being in the 228, none of us can figure out why the team would be disqualified for not making it to one match when every other comp league in the game just counts it as a loss.

Maybe we can tweet Russ for clarification.

Since PGI very often does things that differ from the norm in other leagues, I suspect this means you're out of the tournament. Completely DQ'd.

Surely missing one match can't mean disqualification for the whole team from the whole remainder of the tournament. The same disqualification rules are written for the 2 minute match preparation window.

Exactly. But getting clarification seems to be difficult at the moment.

This might be a "soft" rule to reduce the number of teams, meaning far less time/effort ref'ing matches. You are either a dedicated Mech Warrior or you are a potato farmer.

No, you would be disqualified for that match only, not the entire tournament.

Apologies for the confusing text, we'll get that fixed right away.

The correct wording in the rules will be changed to the following:
"If a Team does not have all 8 Players ready to launch within 2 minutes after the official match start time they will forfeit the match."

Thanks Tina, that is exactly what a few of us were looking for. Much appreciated.

Still waiting for that "fixed right away"...as the rules still state forfeit and disqualified.
