I had a scouting match yesterday in a SCR (ERLs, not SSRMs ;P).

Basically, there was one MPL Blackjack who ran from one of us to the next.
bopbopbop - leg destroyed
bopbopbop - mech destroyed

Match was over in 3 minutes or so. 0-4.

I don't whine "aimbot" or so, he just had good aim.
I thought "that's how you counter the feared StreakCrow". Or any other Mech for that matter.
Now I kind of lost interest in scouting Posted Image

Legs. Legs are the go to target on a SCR. I have a splatCrow that I run (more focused damage than SSRM), and finally ran into a couple players doing that. My previous scouting forays, most people tried to brawl with me, and unless all 4 focused me, I was able to tear up, if not out right destroy 2+. When my legs were focused, I went down fast. The BJ-1x with a mix of SPL and MPL seemed especially adept at this.

MS was IS for a week and clan for a week. My win loss ratio went down as clan trying to make storm crows work against those mechs piloted by good players. I played 17 games and won all of them straight as is and now my win loss isn't nearly the same. It's the ice ferret you gotta watch out for now.

It's easy to kill and Ice ferret too. You just get you and 11 other mechs to focus fire on it for about 5 minutes.

Each PUG match I say the samething in team chat in the lobby.
"LEGS, LEGS, LEGS"

Once in game, I use VoIP to ensure one of us are calling targets to leg.
Resulting in a 75% win ratio.

If I can get a team of all Kurita pilots (HouseKurita TS), the ratio goes much higher.

All things being equal, clans are at a disadvantage.

I don't think they are at a disadvantage. I just think that Crows aren't the most scary or effective mechs they can field in scout mode.

Jenner IICs, Hunchback IICs, Cheaters..... Depending on if you are gathering or protecting the map you are on the Crow seems a less viable choice than a lot of clan mechs.

Clans need a couple things for balance to return at the moment.

1. Clan mech buff/ price drop- Now, before you lynch me for even daring to suggesting that Clan mechs need to be cheaper, hear me out. Clan mechs, for their current costs, just aren't worth it. I mean, why spend C bills on an Arctic Cheetah, when you can build a Locust to do the same job for a much lower cost and still be just as effective if not more effective. This brings me quite nicely into point two.

2. Bring the Firemoth into MWO - As I mentioned in the previous point, the Locust is dirt cheap and easy to upgrade into a beast that out runs literally everything else in the game. Seriously, with an XL 190 engine a Locust has a top speed of 153.9 KPH. The only thing that can even come close to that speed is a Jenner IIC, and even then the Locust still has about 20 KPH on it. The Firemoth is the only Clan mech I can think of that could potentially match the Locust in speed, and price.

IS mechs cost a lot to upgrade before they are useful. Especially the lights.

Not true. To take a stock locust 1e to its optimal performance build takes around 6.7 mil credits.

For a new player that can mean a lot of credits.

A lot of Clan mechs actually come out cheaper in the end. Depends on how many omnipods you need to switch out.

Also Locusts are not remotely comparable to an Artic Cheetah. Might as well compare an Black Knight to an Orion. The only thing the Locust can do that the Cheetah can't (that's worth doing) is running around, and that's when you ahve to pray your ability to serpentine is better than the enemy teams ability to aim.

Erm, Locusts can equip up to five medium lasers and has a much higher top speed. Not to mention they are dirt cheap and remain so throughout the upgrade process. Plus, thanks to the variety of Locust variants, they can do almost everything, albeit some roles they don't really succeed at. They can Laser snipe, PPC Snipe, Laser boat, Missileboat (However, they cannot match the Adder as a light-weight Missileboat), ect. They are far more versatile than Arctic Cheetahs, far cheaper to buy and upgrade than Arctic Cheetahs, and out perform them in both speed and firepower. The only way I can think of where the Arctic Cheetah out performs the Locust is in health. Even then, the Arctic Cheetah is out-performed as a high-speed Clan mech by the Jenner IIC, which the Locust still out-run.

I'm just astounded we got to the point where the Locust is considered a go-to mech, and said to be meta without a smirk.

Seriously, i played scout missions and i did fine with my splat Griffin and I rank 856 in the leaderboards so I am no L33T player , I saw a golden boy kintaro wrekt clanners with a streak boat.

Quit your complaining you cross eyed surat freebirths and get gud!!! You are embarrassing the inner sphere....

I probably spent no more than 3 million Cbills fitting 4 Cheetahs when they dropped. That's half of the cost of fitting 1 Locust. If I had to buy them all for cbills (4 Locusts and Cheetahs) the cost would come out to be about the same. The only difference is that when you buy clan you're usually buying XL, DHS, and Endo/Ferro up front with no need to buy them as separate upgrades.

6 IS Medium lasers (the most any Locust can fit) do 30 damage. 6 Clan SPLs do 36 damage at lower heat and lower duration, and a Locust running 6 MLs even with the quirks is running extremely hot. Plus jump jets. Plus fantastic Cheeter hitboxes. The Locust can go ahead and be fast. If it weren't killing it would be even easier.

Wow. Just, wow.

Stormcrows are mighty and vicious! How, oh how, can I kill them before they kill me.....WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO CUSTOMIZE MY TRIAL MECH OR BE ABLE TO ACTUALLY AIM????

All your suggestions are great...aim for the crotch, aim for the legs....but, you see, I'm a new player. I don't own my own mechs. All I have are the free trials. I can't change my weapons. And aiming is hard. I'm real good with LRMs, though.

Isn't there a way for me to kill the mighty Stormcrow without being able to aim? How many LRMs should I bring to scouting missions?

Bring things that the enemy isn't expecting. We've had worse times taking on Hunchback IICs with lots of lasers than we have stormcrows.

Don't be discouraged, most of it is about focusing fire rather than what mech you bring. I've seen a lot of terrible blackjack pilots too...
