They already have started they are gonna add a 3rd person view if they can find a way to make it balanced, so I dont see why people are arguing one way or the other way since they are gonna make the decision regardless of what we say.

Sims should not have 3rd person for anything other than looking at your ride for screenshots.

If you want to build a mech from scratch that has your pilot magically sitting 10-15 feet behind your mech on a lawn chair duct taped to a pole, be my guest. But there's no 3rd person.

LOL now that made my night. Thank you...

First person view only, and I am glad for that. First person increases the realism of the game, it also changes certain strategies in game. I approve

No thank you on the 3rd person view, 3rd person view would take away from the simulation feel of the game, your supposed to feel like your piloting a giant mech.I believe most of these people that want 3rd person view have been spoiled by previous games like MechAssault and such!

*snip* Another option would be to allow its use only before a match starts, which means you'd be able to look at your Mech before then like you'll want, but then be stuck to first person once the match starts.

I like this option very much. I'd love to see my mech from all kinds of angles before we start stomping across the map.

I am not sure how its spoiled, unless you mean the view more approximates your filed of vision in real life then I guess that is spoiled.

If they have some better way to add peripheral vision I am all for it. Even if it is a 15 monitor set up. I guess I better start saving my pennies.

1st person view makes me feel claustrophobic, so much so in fact, I have never played a first person game for very long. I am hoping that this one will be different enough to make me stay. Or perhaps a multi monitor view will help (which I have read somewhere they are implementing. I would say that a multi monitor view is every bit as much an advantage as third person view, and a lot harder for the general puplic to use.

That's fair enough I guess. Hmm I must say I like the sound of a multi monitor view.

The way I heard, you won't be able to go into 3rd person view only because you could get a peek at enemy movements without exposing yourself to fire. This game was designed to be played this way. Which also tells me that there won't be a WoT-style cloak when someone goes out of your teams view.

In a single-smonitor set up there's ZERO realism in first person view. It's like driving a car with side and rear windows painted solid black so that you only see directly in front of you. Yeah, great realism indeed!

Which in turn means there will be "transparent wall" hacks almost from day one. Only reliable way to make player unable to see what he's not supposed to is to not transmit it to the client.

This thread makes me wonder more and more if refunds are available for the founders packs.

it is not that much the curved moniters have gone down in price...

The problem is, that unless you have about 15 monitors, you can't emulate "what the pilot can see"...

so your argument is flawed on its basic premise.

You did no reasearch! Ever heard of the NEC CRV43 Curved Widescreen Display? Or the The Ostendo CRVD Curved Display. Both are around $6500, but it is worth it I'm saving up!

Except with head trackers such as TrackIR and similar devices. You can end up looking around with your head without moving whatever vehicle/avatar you are in.
Helps alleviate this issue.

Now, if the first-person cockpits allow for looking out of the side windows (for those mechs that have side windows), then this problem is solved without having the ability to peek around corners or over buildings because you have some omniscient viewpoint akin to a guardian angle floating above your right shoulder.

Here is an idea that should please everyone, allow 3pv but have it fixed at knee height a few metres behind the mech and limited to say 40 degrees FOV. This will allow the 3PV'ers to be able to look at their pretty mech but not confer the ridiculous advantages that 3PV confers in other games.

Except "TrackIR and similar devices" already isn't "single-monitor set up" I was referring to. Are you suggesting I *must* spend another $100-150 to make the game not feel like I'm wearing a box on my head with a hole for viewing cut out on the front side? Especially when this issue has better, cheaper and simpler solution?

Again, being able to see only in front of you and only from physical viewports ("windows") is not realistic even in the case of modern fighting vehicles (cameras, anyone?). You'd think around 3050 they'd have better technology, even if it's not canon.

Battle awareness is very important and i don't believe such advenced tech has so limited view. Even tanks has periscopes.
I accept that looking over coners is some "cheat", but increased field of view doesn't.

Have you ever tried driving an armoured vehicle with just the periscopes (or "closed down" as we used to call it)?

It's a bloody nightmare, you are so restricted in what you can and can not see.
So using that as an example is a poor one, I always preferred to drive with my head out for the extra visibility, however in a combat situation it just isn't viable or safe.

However I think that to best implement the ability to look around in a mech cockpit, it should be by the old hat stick or programmed keys for the keyboard warriors amongst us.
Which enables you to look to your right & left, even behind you (especially considering mech's in the canon had rear mounted weapons.) & Check these mysterious monitors the devs mention.....

But to implement a view that is a 3rd person perspective situated above & behind you is just not the way to go. As many posters have already stated, there are too many advantages in such an option.

Remember that these are supposed to be huge armoured engines of war & as such a large view port or sensor arrays would be prime targets (even weakpoints) for the enemy to exploit, I know that if I saw such a thing on an enemy mech that's what I would aim for every time...

I agree that battlefield awareness is vital, on any battlefield & is generally the key to overall victory, which is why it should be something that is obtained by lancemates working together, relaying information etc.

Ooops... sorry didn't mean to rave on so much........ I'll go back to my corner now.

Hope there isn't a 3rd person view. So many ways it can give a massive advantage over 1st person. Also it kills the immersion, as you are basically forced to use it in order to compete. :)

For the billionth time, there won't be a 3rd person view "on release".. whether it's good or bad is irrelevant because it's not going in the game for a very long time.
