Should there be chassis limits for higher group sizes

  1. Interesting idea, let's give this a try (6 votes [40.00%])

  2. Bad idea, min/max limits are enough (5 votes [33.33%])

  3. Bad idea, I want 3/3/3/3 back (2 votes [13.33%])

A very simple solution to 12 man chassis spamming problem (see this) in the group Q would be to introduce chassis limits ADDITIONALLY to the current min/max limits. But in order to give smaller groups a real edge this time I suggest limiting the number of mechs per chassis more the bigger the group.
  • Groups of 4 or less should be able to drop with a maximum of 4 mechs per chassis (so actually no limit at all)
  • Groups of 5 to 8 should be able to drop with a maximum of 3 mechs per chassis
  • Groups of 9+ should be able to drop with a maximum of 2 mechs per chassis (no 10xStormcrow or 8xCheeter anymore)
Or in tabular form it would look like this:

Group SizeChassis Limit
24
34
44
53
63
73
83
92
102
122

Advantages:
  • Smaller groups have more freedom, and hence a real edge. Being able to field 2x85t mechs compared to an average of 55t for the 12 man isn't really an edge since MWO tries to balance weight classes against each other. Being able to bring one chassis 4 times is a real advantage because 4 identical mechs sync up better than 4 different mechs (or 2x2).
  • The MM can still focus on PSR instead of 3/3/3/3 since the chassis limit is checked during group creation and not during match making.
  • Can be configurable the same way the min/max tonnage limits are. So PGI can still change this on-the-fly if for example if it turns out that 9-10 man groups are better off with 3 per chassis.
  • It is better to have one group of fast mechs and one group of heavier mechs, than two groups of mixed speeds, which again helps overcome the communication problem 3x4 groups have against 1x12man.
Apart from the above the min/max corridor should narrow the more people are in the group. I would allow an average min of 20 and average max of 100 for 2 mans and gradually reduce this to avg. min of 37 and avg max of 53 for 12 man as it is now. Currently a 4 man group needs to bring an avg. min. of 50t, which is the highest of all group sizes, and hence a tactical disadvantage. A group of 4 talented light pilots should be able run at least 3 lights without having to bring a 100t mech to overcome the 200t min limit.

Good idea! Met yesterday 4men, all in Medium-Pulse-Thunderbolts....was the fastest brawl if ever seen....maybe a chassis limit of 3 would be better for 4 group or less....

Sure limit player choice even more for more wait times with the MM instead of simply implement a proper BV system and get rid of tonnage MM...

EVEN IF you bring 6 pairs of the same duplicates of 'mechs (say, 6 groups of 2-man stormcrows, or, whatever, direwhales) - it will not help you, 12-man groups with each one on a different chassis without a single duplicate will always dominate you. Forget about whine/"non-working MM"/turbo-wins against coordinated teams with your full PUG team ffs. MWO is about teamwork and teamplay. Don't you get it? KK, enjoy your pain -_-
