So, I was thinking about forever ago when I remember a dev talking about weapon convergence, to a point. And I had a thought.
Devs said locking targets increases range of lasers...or something along those lines, didnt make a whole bunch of sense, but hey, whatever.
I also dont exactly favor the whole instant convergance thing, even if it has saved my butt more than a few times.
So here comes my thought: These are multi-ton war machines with super computers in them shooting giant *** slugs and lasers in large enough volume to level a city block or two in minutes. These things take a moment to process information and are filled with actuators to help target things outside of the immediate reach of the battlemech.
Standing and firing with no target, only hits what you are facing, and in the exact pattern that the weapons are mounted in. When in combat, PRESSING R (OHGODGGPGIPLZNERF) begins to converge your weapons on your reticle, the actuators in the arms and weapons are beginning to direct the barrel or laser emitter to a particular angle, say it takes a second to do this, about the same time as it takes to get detailed target information. Though pure convergence (what we have now) would take more than a few seconds to achieve and even then they wouldn't have god-aim like they do now, Time To Kill would increase as those close quarters engagements that start from 500 or so meters and close in, your weapons would be converging on your target, spreading the damage all over the enemy mech. Those who never press R would be forever without accurate weapons and would even run the risk of more friendly fire, as their arm mounted weapons could miss the target and hit a nearby friendly on the opposite side.
This would make the pilot tree "convergence" seem a little nicer as the weapons on the mech aim a little faster and so on so forth.
Tis just a thought.
Try to give constructive arguments

Alternative suggestion. Replace the Pinpoint skill with something useful, like +5% sensor range.

What a fantastic idea! Let's make the game near impossible for new players while simultaneously buffing ECM back to insane god-mode levels!
How could PGI have not seen such an eloquent and flawless solution to the convergence problem?

"Constructive" is kind of a weird criteria for an entirely academic subject, given that PGI is never going to do this and never going to consider these kind of ideas from the players.
Yeah, this would be cool. It would be cool for an umber of different reasons. I guess my constructive feedback would be to just relax and accept that it's never going to happen.
