Are you still buying things why or why not?

Sometimes I go weeks without playing, then I admit that it's more fun than 99% of other games.

The Roc look exceedingly good and would have been a purchase before but i dont buy on looks only anymore. I found that waiting after a mech is released to see it live kills the hype and the "i must own it" reflex i had before. The Archer would have been a purchase too before, now im not even spending cbills for them.
Even though i dont like the preorder, the hype, the waiting, the paywall opness, the reason i dont spend is because i spend as much time deciding which mech ill play tonight than play it. I Try to play a different one every night and adding more on top really doesnt seem like a good option anymore and i only own 144. Why would i want more :/ i also dread the day where we will move the timeline and all of those mech possibly become obsolete for a year if not ever.
Im not ashamed to admit i often bought new variant of a chassis i own(with CBILLS though) just because i want a different Pattern Camo(MC spent) but having the same Pattern/Camo for years got old apparently. Releasing the special pattern of R2 would likely get me to buy camo for mc's on new mech i would pay with cbills as well i just plain new pattern.

Now, had they been more thoughtful with the quirk system, they could have kept Mechs in certain roles, best suited to their stock weapon systems. Sadly, they did not do this... but there is still time to adjust things after the recent re-scaling. Were they to figure out how to make a Summoner Prime good with the ER PPC, LRM 15 and LB 10-X, for example, it might create a greater need to make future purchases.

Wouldn't buy anything else.
And yes this is a whale >$1200 - so the sum alone keeps me here until the servers go down.
In some moments I wished never to recovered after my first breakdown.
But it was a Thunderbolt - (with a real arm laser no stubby lego pocket light)

While I'll be sad to see MWO go, and the loss of money spent painful its not that big a deal and is not the be all end all of my BattleTech fandom. I've probably spent double the amount I've put into MWO in table-top books and PDFs in the same time-frame.

Founders Hunch
Project Phoenix + Booster for Grif and Wolverine
Resistance 1
Resistance 2
Clan Wave 1 - Daishi Collection + Timber & Warhawk Alacarte (post-release)
Clan Wave 3
Urbanmech Collection
MAD + S + Hero
WHM + S + Hero
Kodiak + Hero variant
Origins
Then a few MC purchases over the years during black friday, to pick up various heroes when they were half off. IIRC:
Boar's Head
La Manche
Heavy Metal
Ilya
Firebrand
Fang/Flame
IV-Four
Sparky
Yen-Lo-Wang (my first hero purchase, and still a fav)
Arrow
Ember
***************
And no, I'm not spending anymore. The last pack I picked up was the Kodiak when its preorder first went up. I haven't even played the things yet.
Honestly, once the marauder was in game and I found my "groove" with it, it kind of felt like I'd beaten the game. "That's it, nothing more to see here."

I still make a few purchases now and then if i see content released, or if i like the mech a lot, last ones being the Urbie (top tier), Marauder (top tier), and lately the Cyclops ($20 minimally viable purchase tier atm, maybe with hero addon later).

My last pack was Clan Wave 3. After that, there weren't many more nostalgia mechs for me, and the gameplay has been rather stagnant for quite some time. I hit my peak of competition on the little engine that could Locust, and stopped playing even that after some 2M mech XP - that was about 6 months ago.
Each major change has, to me, not been the earth shattering revamp that was expected/feared. The control scheme and game mechanics remain simple (not bad, mind you), and I just got tired of the arcade-style play.
I now will only play with friends as a social experience. I have not dropped solo in a long time, and will probably never do so again. There's just not enough new and interesting to do in this game to satisfy me.
If any of this sounds like a condemnation, it's not. MWO was/is a good game. It's just that I've played it for the better part of 3 years. Without more to it than 5 keyboard keys and three mouse buttons, I can't fixate on it any longer.
With that, DCS has taken my attention for its glorious complex simulation aspects. Each plane is a completely different experience and takes days to learn, months to master. When I get bored of one, I start learning another. I have a mission editor to mockup whatever scenario my heart desires. I can jump in instant action, or play involved campaigns. I can fly all around my sandbox, or I can jump in someone else's and fly with/against them. I've spent slightly less on DCS modules, but far surpassed total expense as compared what I spent on MWO by buying HOTAS, projector, TrackIR, and rudder pedals, just for this sim.
If MWO expanded the complexity of the game mechanics (dynamic COF, piloting skill to prevent falling, balanced modules with pros and cons), developed a user-driven mission editor / custom game tools, and made CW something other than lane control madness, I'd probably jump back into this game with reckless abandon. I don't think these are necessary changes for this game to continue its success, so I am not expecting any kind of campaign for such to bear fruit... hence my full attention on DCS, now.

And to be true, I'm at a point where I have enough mechs and I'm at a spot where the "new" mechs are available for cBills before I'm done mastering the last batch of mechs, so there's no need to spend real money. At least not for mechs.

So yes I have stopped spending for now, it will take something special for me to open my wallet for this game again.
I still play this game daily and still love it, I can't justify spending anymore when I have all I need to be competitive.

This game needs.. something. A time jump, and Solaris. I'll probably be back when that happens. Almost everything has the same build and adding 50 more new mech's won't solve anything. We need more options, things got OLD. Add some freaking new weapons and equipment to spice it up. **** the balance, they never got it right anyway.
We want new stuff.
