For small fast mechs with jump jets steal everything here...
For heavy mechs add a more lumbering style with the big guns, the ability to torso twist. And make the environment destructible...
Then add missiles, missile lock, anti-missile defense (chaff/flares etc) to both...
Finally steal the economy, character skill development, and open world structure from Eve Online. Basically core worlds equal high sec space and border worlds equal low sec space.
Probably impossible to do the last one, but you gotta admit it would be pretty damn cool.

Steal every other games good ideas

Ehhhh, I'm not big on the EVE structure of things. Plus since it sounds like it'll be a mission based game rather than an open one the high/low sec thing won't really work out.
However, I agree with the other stuff. Having a more responsive zippy light mech and a more lumbering heavy with gadgets up the ying yang would be a welcome aspect to the game.

... or they can just stick to good old ideas.
Just saying.
P.S: EVE Online, the truth:
*if I find that video, I will post it here*

Hah yeah playing Eve Online is like flying a spreadsheet. Combat in that game is pretty lame.
But really what I meant they should steal from Eve is how the economy is setup and how groups of players can take and hold systems. How People make everything and there's a huge supply chain. If you lose a ship better hope you bought insurance cus it aint coming back. Also there are endless skills to learn and two ships of the same design can play totally differently depending on what weapons and equipment you stuff them with. Just alot of cool ideas in Eve that could be used to make an epic Mechwarrior Online game.
But yeah definitely don't copy the combat.

The only part of Eve that would even remotely fit this kind of game would be an open-market economy for buying and selling items. Every other part is stupid and boring.
